Anyone doing something with the Segways to celebrate Earth Day?
DCSEG recieved an e-mail through the SegAmerica Website to particpate in a local Earth Day event.
We are considering taking a table and talking about the benefits of the Segway Human Transporter as a viable answer to transportation issues.
Was wondering if anyone else had any plans to celebrate this day started back in the 1970's?

Segway LA will be sponsoring World Fest 2005 in conjunction with Earth Day on April 17th. Event staff will be using Segways to get around, and we will have a demonstration booth offering test rides for a donation to charity. Stop by to say hello if you're in the area!

Jason, you don't happen to know offhand if the organizers will permit privately-owned Segways into the event, do you? Having seen what the bureaucratic mindset does even to gung-ho ecologists, I'm not willing to make any assumptions in advance...

I think you should be fine. The event organizers will not have a problem with it, and we have had Segways at that park in the past so I say go for it!

Interesting - Segway LLC is listed as a sponsor of the event.
Someone give me the body of a message and I will send it to all SEG America members in the area inviting them to the event.

Thanks for pointing that out, Stan. It needs to be changed to Segway LA. I will send you an invitation message shortly.

We will be participating in several events on Earth day, in concert with our latest Newport Beach location, and will have some special offers relating to both the existing and forthcoming new Segway products.

It might be a little late to bump this, but if anyone in the Los Angeles area has some free time tomorrow (Sunday), they might want to check it out.

As far as I can tell, parking in the nearby lot is $5 and admission is another $5. If you arrived by HT, you could park a mile or two away...

I only took a few shots.

Still setting up at the main stage.
Three more in the album (http://www.segwaychat.com/forum/photo_album_view.asp?cname=Worldfest+2005&mid=3293&cid=7759)
Crowd was good-sized, but not overly crowded. Once things got going, all these seats were filled during acts. The sound system covered an extensive part of the large, partially shaded grassy area behind the seats, so you didn't need to be in the seating area to hear the music well.
There were two other smaller tented areas for smaller acts, as well as many, many booths. There was a vegan food court area too.
Weather couldn't have been much better, sunny and warm with a light breeze, cool in the shade. I overheard a couple of folks sitting at one of the concert areas mention that it was starting to feel chilly in the final hour as the breeze came up and the sun started to set. But if you kept moving around a little, it was fine.
The ticket booth didn't know for sure whether Segways were allowed in, but they made a radio call and had the answer back in a couple of minutes.
I think there were about half a dozen Segway HTs there, and a few powered and un-powered wheelchairs. There was a hybrid car on display as a promotion. I don't recall seeing any Q-scooters or razor scooters.
The power for the event was supplied by one of the exhibitors who set up seven kilowatts of solar cells.
I stopped by the Segway of LA booth to say hello to Jason. (Nice meeting you, Jason.) They looked busy giving demos. I directed most people in search of a demo to the booth, but ended up giving several demos myself.
I had a pretty good time, but since I followed my own advice about parking a mile or two away, giving those last couple of demos on the way out meant I had to do some pushing the last half-mile back to my parking spot!
