Hi everyone.

I've been looking around for contacts for SEG Atlanta, SEG Michigan (if it's different than Motown SEG), and SEG LA. I can't seem to locate any info on these groups, other than the listing on the SEG America site.

If anyone knows who's running these local groups (if they still exist), can you please email me?

Thanks,

Alex,

I'm in the Atlanta area, and I don't even know if a SEG Atlanta exists. I should have been the one to start it up, along with the help of others, but I just haven't had the time. Wonderful school. Maybe this can be a push to get it started...

I tried on several times to start SEG Atlanta and was told there was some other guy that was starting it. I sent him emails and he never responded. I got back in touch with Seg America and they said yeah, well, that other guy is starting it. I told them he's not doing anything and they really didn't seem to care or get it or something. Anyway, I would love to help SEG Atlanta in any way possible, but someone will have to tell that "other guy" to get off his butt or get out of the way. After trying a few times, I quit trying.

Hey Scott,

Why not just try and get something going on your own? I know there are Seg owners in Atlanta and I bet at least a few of them would like to join in on a ride.

One of the most effective steps we took in starting SEG-NH was to simply declare that it existed and then announce dates for the next group ride. Getting out with others Seggers is a ton of fun, why wait for someone else to make it happen?

We've had outings with Segway owners and of course it was a blast. I just figured I would start the official SEG Atlanta and was hugely disappointed with the experience of trying to do it.

Hey Scott,
Take mrleisure's advice...whatever you're doing, just keep doing it!
It's a blast to ride with others, whether or not you call it "SEG Atlanta". The name can be cleared up later.

What I've been discovering is that many SEGs are dying out, and have very little interest. If you have something there, run with it!

FYI: I'm still trying to find a contact for SEG Michigan. SegwayCity dug up Dan Glidewell. From the news articles about him, he works/worked for Segway LLC. But his email bounces back. Anyone have a contact email for him?

I don't think there such a thing as an "Official" SEG. If you look at how the current groups got started, it was one or two owners who made a small commitment to meet other owners in their area and get together once in a while for a ride. Some groups really took off, with the Bay Area SEG being a notable example.

Unless someone can explain differently, I see no reason not to declare yourself the organizer for SEG-Atlanta and go about meeting and organizing with other Segway enthusiasts in your area. It's fun and will be rewarding in ways you probably can't anticipate. If you need help or support, just ask. There are folks who have already gotten groups going, and they have an idea of what works and what doesn't.

Scott,

I don't think I was this "other guy", but I'll give you a hand on trying to set some stuff up if you need a hand. Just give me a buzz if you're ever doing anything that you need people for.

Scott-
My attempts to contact the Motown SEG have failed. Don't know of any SEG group in Michigan.

Ben,
If you have some time, why don't you contact Scott and get SEG Atlanta rolling again! It sounds like both of you would like to get a group going. All it takes is one person to initiate the contact.
Our first Bay Area meeting was me and 2 other owners-- we met up at UC Berkeley and rode around campus. Now we're over 40 people!

Kevin, try emailing Karl Klimek (shyhawk).

When you say Seg LA, do you mean SEG Louisiana or SEG Los Angeles? If the latter, I haven't heard a thing about them since I started paying attention to things Segway about nine months ago or so. If they're active I'd like to find them!

I meant Los Angeles. There is a SEG Orange County as well. But there was/is a SEG Los Angeles.

Mr. Protocol, I'll let you know if I find anything.

I believe Fred Kaplan who lives close in would know of any contacts. I know he sees one other segger gliding about Beverly Hills, but has not really hooked up with any real group there.

Nothing worse than a lone Segger without anyone to glide with!

I'm in LA and would love to hear of any organization here. We have 2 machines (a "p" and an "i" and would love some organized rides)

Actually we have had two polo games in Orange County. Brian Kane is our local leader. I would like to get more people involved in both counties but especially in LA County. Maybe we could get a Seg polo match here in LA County.

I don't know who the "them" is at SEG America that you were talking to, but I don't think it was me. If you were not getting satisfaction, you should have brought it to a higher level. You would do the same thing in any store if the sales clerk was not doing his/her job.

Anyways ... Nobody else is doing anything in that area, so you should go for it and be the SEG Atlanta or SEG Georgia group coordinator. I will help you in any way that I can. Let's talk about it.

BTW, not all group startup stories are sad: Lately, I have been helping a guy set up a group for Central Pennsylvania www.paseg.com He contacted me about starting a group, I gave hime some advice, I suggested a web site name, and offered to send out Emails for him when he was ready for his first meeting. He is planning a group glide in Harrisburg in May in coordination with a local dealer.

There is only so much I (or the SEG America board) can do to make a local activity happen. We can support and advise and help with Emailings and other stuff like that, but the only real way to get people together is for a local person to just get them together.

BTW, Chris, can we put a link to your new SEG-NH web site on the local groups page of SEG America? There has been a place holder there for a long time.

I doubt there is any Michigan (state level) SEG group. I think the Motown group is for Detroit city area.

Go for it. While you're in there you might want to validate all the links on that page. Several are dead, etc.

Scott!

I've finally gotten off my lazy butt and jumped into the SEGChat world.

Let me know if you want to "Glide the Greenways" soon. The more folks the better! Oh? Can we ride the Greenways in Alpharetta?

Later.
