This is more of a observation, and I would like the Battery experts here to please chime in. I have noticed that Li/Ion batteries "die" very easily.

I had a Sapion / Valence Battery pack for my laptop, which was not used for a few months, and has died (won't charge, won't condition, nothing)
as well as several Sony laptop Batteries that also seem to die after less then 16 months of use. - Is this going to cause problems for us segway people down the line?

Are these batteries 'higher maintenance'
(keep them charged or else)

It is my understanding that while the lifespan of NiMH batteries is measured in the number of charge/dischareg cycles, the lifepsan of Li-Ion rechargeables is measured strictly by months from date of first charge regardless of the number of charge/discharge cycles.

I don't know if this rule of thumb applies to the li-based batteries Segway may be using.
