In order to load/unload my p model HT in a SUV, I bought a Harmar hybrid lift, modified it by sawing off a big chunk of the platform ,and mounted it well off-center in the vehicle. It does the job beautifully. I'll post some pictures if I can figfure out how to do it.

Here's the empty lift in the car:

Here's the Segway on the lift, ready to lift:

Jeez, I was going use a couple of 1x6 boards and power it up. Pretty primitive by comparison! I have a Corvette coupe, and the Segway fits in the back fine. For now I just ( back straight, use the knees...) pick it up and put it in.

Wow,

is that thing easy to remove if you need the space?

How is it powered. I see in one shot a wire to something... Is it cig lighter powered from the car? How much does it draw? Do you charge the seg onboard? Does the car have to be on?

How much does the list weigh?

Sorry for all of the questions, im just curious...

Good luck, and have fun!

To anwer a few querries: I'm glad Jim can pick his HT up and put in into his car. My son sometimes loads my 'p' model in the car but my 80 year old back isn't quite up to it. The Harmar lift is not easily removed, weighing over 200 pounds. It's really an overkill for a Segway as it has the capacity to lift a 350 pound motorized wheel chair. The manufacturer recommends direct connection to the vehicle's battery, but my SUV has a cigarette lighter auxillary receptical nearby at hand, so I used it. (Rated for 20 amps.) The wire visible in the picture is the control switch with two spring-loaded buttons for "up" and "down".

How much would a lift like this cost?

How much did they charge you for the installation?

What is the total time it takes in minutes from when you open the back door til the "p" is on the ground and lift is back in stored postion and you are ready to start it with the red key?

I bought the Harmar lift from 'Planet Mobility', and the complete specs and cost for the AL600 lift are on the attached web site.
http://www.planetmobility.com/store/scooterlifts/harmar/index.html

With the Segway leaning against the fender, the time required to open the car's hatch, lower the platform to the ground, put the Segway on it, move the platform up and into the car, latch the Segway down for safe car travel, and close the hatch is two minutes, thirty five seconds. The time needed to go the other way and put the Segway on the ground behind the car and glide off should be the same or slightly less. I hope this answers your guestions.
