On Monday morning, the Today show will be featuring a Segway innovation. We don't know the exact time, but the show runs from 7:00 - 10:00 am in most markets.
Enjoy!

After looking at your site I wonder if Segway owners might need your advice as a professional. Have you had any knowledge of Segway addiction, or family problems of segaholics? Does a 12 step program work for segway dependent owners?
How about a Dear DocSeg q&a site?

Off topic:
As for the video tape recorders, I highly recommend going with a digital recorder (Tivo, ReplayTV, local cable provider box, etc.) Once you switch, you'll never want to lose it - even if you don't consider yourself an avid TV viewer, but only watch occasionally.

I say its the Segway "golf" and the Segway "X1" (or whatever cool name they give it)
TWO new segways that will have new fenders, and Tires (the X1 is a 'off road' segway) and the "Golf" has the cool golf bag sidecar, and 'differant' tires.
Batteries... I dunno.. I think its a bit early for them to release it, But who knows.

Aren't only those people who have signed the non-disclosure agreement bound by it? Or does that make you the info police for the site if someone ferrets out info and shares it prior to an agreement about information you are aware of? I did not see the picture that was posted here, so I don't know if it was real. But if it was of the real thing, then someone has violated an NDA to take the picture and/or give it to anyone else. I am assuming that Pam (as moderator) does not want to support and encourage that kind of behavior by allowing the information to be posted here.
People who sign an NDA are not allowed to talk about the stuff until the info is officially released by the company. For example, because I signed an NDA, I got to see the Centaur the night before the info was released by Popular Science and then Segway LLC. If someone had posted a picture of the Centaur on Sunday night, I would not be able to talk about it (even though it was now public) because it was not officially announced.
I am willing to bet that everybody that has seen any new products that may or may not exist has signed an NDA. So, no information about new products should be publicly available. Therefore any information (pictures) of new products are, in effect, "stolen".
Check the Terms of Service - this forum is not a democracy nor subject the the concept of free speech. We would always hope the moderators would be reasonable and not limit the free flow of ideas and infomation. But they certainly can. I did not see the picture, but I support Pam's action if she felt the posting was inappropriate.

Adding to what Pam and Stan have stated, while we all are as impatient as could be to see everything new, we also should allow the company to introduce product as they see fit. There are a lot of people working hard to do things right and a lot of money has been spent to get the company this far, let them move forward at their pace.
Fred
jgrohol
11-22-2004, 02:22 PM
I would take anything you see or read online about "new" Segway products with a grain of salt. When the company has information about a new product ready, it will post it on its website. Until then, it's all just speculation (which is fine and fun when that's all it is!).
As for people posting copyrighted images without the permission of the owner of said images, or for those willfully violating their NDA, well, that will certainly cause some issues. If you don't want to get into trouble, simply don't do it...

Well, I'm not passing any judgments about this specific circumstance, and maybe removing the pic was appropriate in this case, but the censorship statement just concerned me in general. I don't know that the moderators can always determine fairly whether information is "stolen" or not. Yeah, terms of service allows the power, but as a consumer of this service I have an interest in its quality.
Ironically, in this case, rather than wondering whether the pic was a private modification or Photoshop, it's removal with warning has only served to confirm that it is a Segway secret. [:O]

I understand your above statement, but are we then to assume that Pam and all the SC moderators have signed NDA's, and Segway LLC sends them out "embargoed" Product information.
Was she removing the pic out of "knowledge" or "speculation"? And by doing so doesn't that change a "rumor" into "Fact"?

For the record..
I don't ask - and am not told - of any stuff "in the works" or "to be announced" - Just what you see, stuff from Segway basically letting us know to "look out" for something the next week or so.. or to check out a magazine article, or a television spot.
I probably don't jump in soon enough to dispel this sort of stuff, so I hope that helps clear up this "SC has in inside scoop" talk.
That said, if someone from Segway LLC asks that something posted be removed (if, for example, it violates some NDA.. or copyright... or whatever), we surely give the request consideration and comply when warranted. We would give the same consideration to any company or individual who brought an alleged violation to our attention.
Finally, on the issue of moderation.. So little is moderated around here. For the most part, there is a lot of mutual respect and consideration. I'm proud of this community. You mostly moderate yourselves and your own discussion. We just keep the place clean.. pick up the bottles from the floor.. occasionally sweep, and on rare occasions show newbie, trouble-making weirdos the door :-)
(P.S. I've never held, seen, touched, signed a NDA in my life.)

I have to say I don't agree with Stan's and fredKap's opinion at all.
NDA stands for non disclosure agreement. It does not stand for non redesclosure agreement and anybody who reposts the same information is not to be touched by any form of consequence.
That being said, supporting a company that instructs a non-formal chat site with posting behaviour is actually not supporting a company. In the long run, this is hurting it.
Position: I love LLC and it's products. I have to stress that if moderation comes from strict guidance of the company I do not like the PR processes they designed. If it came from the sole moderation efforts of SC admins, then this is another story.

It's a shame from what I have read and seen the last two days that SC seems to be under LLC's control.
If LLC lets out a secret to someone and that person spreads the information I can see where that person was wrong and LLC should be upset but why should SC delete post and pictures? The harm has been done, copies have been made and lots of folks have seen it. Just forget it and go on to something else.
It looks like LLC has more pull than we know.
If you remember when Seg America was being formed that most did not want LLC to be pulling the strings. I don't think that would be good here on SC. Freedom of Speech is getting to be a problem more and more so lets not delete post from SC members unless LLC is pulling the strings.
After all it's just a new Seg not the end of the world.
If LLC didn't want the picture out they should have kept it a secret.

Hi,
I fully understand Pam's situation. I'm working for a company where we also sometimes have to use NDA.
Besides of keeping information secret, it's also a matter of maintaining a good relationship (from SC's point of view).
When SC or Pam personnally signed a NDA, it wouldn't look good to have confidential information on a website of which you are moderator. Then SC will know for sure that LLC will stop coorperating with SC.
Now you might be saying, when it's leaked, it's leaked. But on the other hand we do all like the chat-sessions with the LLC people. When SC wouldn't keep it self to the NDA, we can for sure say goodbye to the close relationship with LLC (and thus also to those chat-sessions).
I won't say that moderation is a good thing in general, but in this situation I fully understand it.
In the meantime I just keep checking the SC and Segway website daily to see if there is any new bit of info regarding the new models.
Kind regards,
Florin
P.S. The only rumours/news I have heard are the red and yellow colored I's and the new batteries.

You know in a way this is funny. After all LLC got the idea for the new Off-Road Seg from SC members who have already been there and done that. I don't hear them being upset because LLC used their ideas.
LLC owns SC members for all the new ideas, testing and advertising we have and are doing for them.
Have you heard a thank you yet?
So when someone finds new information out there don't blame them for wanting to share the news with the rest of us. If you remember in the past there have been photos of the LLC plant and photos of the first Segs and other so call TOP SECRET information that has been posted.
If LLC can't control their secrets why should SC do it for them?

Well, this is getting complicated. I have to say that while I don't think SC should take it upon itself to police LLC's secrets, I can understand Frank's statement that requests to remove material in violation of intellectual property rights will be respected at the discretion of SC. The problem is when SC's discretion/judgement is in question.
In this case, IF the photo was an LLC copyright photo, I could see it being removed, and IF LLC knows the poster has signed a non-disclosure, it is reasonable to remove the post. The complication comes in removing others subsequent posts relating to the original (I'll allow it's a grey area), and in verifying LLC's rights they are asserting (should SC trust LLC?). I'm fine with accepting this process as it is, until/unless we see evidence of abuse.

I am still at work, and don't want to wait till later when I get home to my VCR...

Karl asked " What Happened ""> A nice but brief view of Al Roker trying a Centaur. But without adequate training, it looked for a while that Al Roker was going to do for the Centaur what George Bush did for the Segway HT.
Gee, hope this post doesn't get me tickled or frozen.

It's not worth the time to post it.......it wasnt a segment about the Segway Centaur......the Centaur was just one of many products showcased for a couple seconds each of air time.... Al Roker didnt do much to convince even me to buy one.....perhaps he needed a little practice during a commercial break before the segment aired.
BTW...I dont have Tivo, nor did I record the episode on VCR

Mike,
You may be onto something there. I notice that Al didn't have to turn the machine on -- so I fear that he may need a little more coaching before let out on his own :)
It was cool to see the Centaur software kick in to keep Al in place when he landed down on all fours -- although the spinning wheels made him feel like he was out of control.
The Centaur on the show looked much like the "concept drawing" on LLC's website -- except with the standard black i-series wheels (with the divots cut out).
With a little more design work, this machine is going to be typical Segway super-cool. This update is way nicer than the photos on LLC's website, and I can't wait to see the final version later on.
BTW, the lack of fenders does scare me. I can see myself bumping up against the tires on that machine without too much difficulty -- especially the back ones. Again, it'll be cool to see the final design.

I did set my VCR and I don't usually watch this kind of drivel...
Unfortunately, here in Boston, I guess we don't get the third hour of that show, Regis and Kelly came on and spouted some silly stuff.
So now I have a tape of three hours of useless television and still no pictures of Doug in his goatee.
Can anyone post a link to it, or does anyone know of a rebroadcast date?

I deadfully watched the three hours, too. I wasn't surprised it was the Centaur. Although we here in SC land and all Popular Science subscribers already knew about it, I don't see what harm was done. I don't think Al was a good choice for doing the demo either. And come on, they didn't say they were gonna produce or market them anyway, did they? I afraid some of those products were pretty lame shown with it, were'nt they? Like a surf board with a lcd panel for internet communication, come on... Surf heads aren't that interested in the internet, are they? Like they are gonna look at it when they are trying to surf. Most of them can't spell anyway. Duh! Sometimes I think technology takes a wrong turn every now and then.

I missed it too!
But did anyone see Fox & Friends this morning in New York?
I live on the left coast and got up early for a drink of water, switched on the tube and there it was, they were out on the street, live showing all the Hi Tech stuff, little yellow elect car, surf board with built in comuter, etc. And in the backround were 2 Centaur's!
They saved the Segways till last and had a great rider showing off in style!

So ... why couldn't the LLC (Sorry John, I don't mean to single you out) have come into SegChat and said, "Hey, the Centaur is gonna be on the Today Show!" ?
???
I really don't get it.

Yeah, like barely an hour before it was to be aired. I don't know why it couldn't have been anounced here as to what it was, because we all here had seen or heard about it.

Oh, by the way, has anyone noticed the cute little chirp as the front wheels on the Centaur hit the ground from the video on LLC's website. Its sounds cool. Its at the very end of the video.
Ooooh, just 6 more posts and I will have "SENIOR MEMBER" status. Woo Hoo... Looks like today will be the day.
Naah, I think I'll make the 500th post on Thanksgiving, that would be cooler. Don't ya think?

What's there to get? I couldn't elaborate more because of the embargo agreement we had with Time (which is fairly standard for print publications)... Sorry.

Tell us what you can and we will take it from there.
For those of us that don't like the amount of information we get, I suggest we complain about it on this forum. I know we all want to be reserved, but it's okay. You're among friends. Go ahead and complain. There is no reason to hold your tounge any longer.
Wait a minute... You ARE already complaining.... About everything! Even about things that aren't happening.
Wait a minute... Is this an enthusiasts forum or a dissenters forum... I may be in the wrong place...
I'm sooo confused....

I hope no individual takes my previous post personally. I did not direct it to any person or group of people. I really do not want any one to be offended, I just wanted to point out that we do have a tendency toward a great deal of negativity.
I would rather the default of this forum to be positive, rather than negative.
I will apologize in advance, and I implore all to read this without taking it personally, but some people here call themselves enthusiasts, but complain constantly. With enthusiasts like that, who needs detractors?
Some people are enthusiasts, and have been positive in the past, and are unhappy with an event or series of events lately, and when those issues are resolved, will become positive again. These people, and I can think of a few off the top of my head, are not who I am speaking of.
I am speaking of those who came to this forum and complained from the start. Very rarely a positive word. Those people haven't earned their stripes, and just came on here to hurt the attitude of those here.
Those are the people who should decide what label they want, supporter or detractor. Be honest.
By the way, a copy is a copy. You cannot make another original. Segway is an original. The technology can be re-applied and similarly used, well or poorly, but will never be the original again.
Dean said it well at the end of the 10MPH ride. He said that we all know of the Wright Brothers' flight a hundred years ago. They were the first. He asked if anyone knew of who made the second flight. During the silence of everyone trying to recall, he said, "Who cares?"... The point was, First is original, the rest are not.

Sounds like John with his posts about the Centaur and PT by posting the off road Seg on egadget started all this news. Two members who know LLC and what they will allow. If it is on the net it is open season for information.
