Yes, I fretted for quite some time until my wonderful wife said "Just do it so I don't have to keep hearing about it." :)

Hi Brooster,
I think the right answer is: Amazon started selling the Segway HT.
What did I win? :-)
Kind regards,
Florin

Two years ago today was when I started getting real jealous of everyone on this board who wanted an I series. I knew I wanted a P, so I had to wait even longer. I found a way to get my P a while before it's official release, but it was still an agonizing wait.

Thank God for our wonderful wives! I received notice of the Amazon sale when I got home from work that day, filled out the online form, and waited for my wife to get home before hitting the last key. She said, 'Go for it'! I think I'll take her out to dinner tonight.

Two years ago today I started working very very hard to convince my wonderful wife that buying a Segway was the right thing to do. It took 17 days, three spreadsheets, a powerpoint presentation, and a whole lot of begging but she finally agreed - if only to shut me up.
I ordered mine on 12/04/02 at 10:25 p.m.
I agree with Terry, Thank God for our supportive partners. I'm taking mine out to dinner too.

I'm taking LadyBroo out to dinner as well! Today's the seventh anniversary of the day we met on a blind date.
Two years ago tonight, I was moping around the house because I wanted a Seg so badly, but didn't feel like I could justify the expense. LadyBroo said, "Geez Brooster, you look like you just lost your best friend!" "Yeah, well, you know," I said. "It's just the way it is. Maybe someday."
An hour later, LadyBroo walked into the living room and handed me a big manila envelope, smiled, and said, "Happy Anniversary, honey."
I opened it up, and my jaw just about hit the floor. It was a printed confirmation from Amazon.com ... she'd just ordered me a Seg! Wow!
Then she said, "And Merry Christmas, and Happy Valentine's Day, and Happy Birthday, and every other holiday for about the next three years!"
I have one wonderful wife, I'll tell ya!

Two years ago today, I looked at the $500 deposit and thought HELL YEA. only to find out that the Max weight was 250 lbs. - depressed by that news, I ate a gallon of ice cream.
Seriously.

Oh yes.....Two years ago today....I remember it like it was 24 months ago:
I was bouncing around wanting to order one, trying to find a way to justify it, and my wife kept saying that we didn't need it!
Well, I have a Segway dealership now, and she is my soon-to-be ex-wife....I wonder if there is any connection?
:D

does no one find my pain even a little funny? My father read that post, and called me laughing his head off!

I too vividly remember the day.
I'm delighted to see so many others shared my feelings.
Should I, shouldn't I ??
A lot has happened in the last 2 years.
What will the next two years bring ?
That's an even more exciting thought.
Michael
Oh, I can remember it, too, but I agonized over it all the way until 10 minutes to midnight on the last night of the early delivery deadline and then went for it. Have never regretted it one minute!!!! I STILL get a kick out of riding...
Isn't it also a bit ironic that as of today, someone has just finished riding one across country!!!

I ordered mine from Amazon within seconds after I got the EMail announcing they were for sale. I did not tell my wife until February.

Hi Mac ... it sure is! I think it's pure coincidence. Maybe not, who knows? In any case, November 18th will always be a date that sticks in our minds. It was an exciting day two years ago, and it's an exciting day again today. Congrats 10mph!

Wow, those are some cool stories. And what's also amazing is that after a year and a half of use, those first machines are still riding strong!
Chris
hmmmm - on 11/18 I was on my way to Atlanta for surgery. I didn't find out about the Amazon sale until the 23rd! But I dithered a couple of days and bought mine and and dithered a couple of more days and sent in my 75 word "Why I want a Segway" - and the rest is history. I am now up and counting on my Segway from December 24. (And SegChat from right around then.) Thanks to Segway for their wonderful invention, and Frank for this forum, and all of you for sharing your experiences, which made mine so much safer and more fun.

Dean said in his speech at the 10 MPH reception that this accomplishment is no big deal for Segway but it is a big deal for the 10 MPH crew. He went on to explain that nobody at Segway (none of the people in engineering, manufacturing, testing or marketing) nor any Segway enthusiasts (us) ever had a doubt that the machine could complete the journey. But it is a very big deal for the 10 MPH crew because nobody else in the world, ever, can be the first to cross the USA on a Segway HT - they are the ones who did it.

I wanted to order one so badly that day from Amazon but two things held me back. One, there was no guarantee that I would be one of those lucky to be picked to go to Deans house for dinner and get early de;ivery, and Two, I did not want to have that possible wait up to 8 months for delivery from Amazon if I was not one of the early essay winners. So....,I waited eagerly , looking in from day to day to see who the lucky one's were, and looking at Segways website and drooling. Well before I knew it, a dealership opened nearby the house and I was able to walk in and take one home the same day, that was in Feb 03.....the wait wasnt too long, and as we all know it was well worth it, no regrets ( except for missing a dinner at Deans )!!I still enjoy riding my machine and now the south Florida weather is back to cool ( 70's-80's low humidy )and the gliding is as good as it ever was !
What DOES the future hold ????

Zorba, I thought I was quick. Got poster #941 (gotta get that damn thing framed.) As soon as the announcement came, I cranked up my laptop, surfed to Amazon.com, placed the order. BTW, I told my wife but she had no idea it cost what it did. Blew a gasket when she found out. Decided if I had to make a choice, so be it.
Ron
The stories on the posters (although most know) - they had a lot of posters put up in tubes, and when the order came in just grabbed a tube from the stack and mailed it off. So, if your poster was 941, you could have been the 20th person to order or the 1200'th person to order. But you were STILL in the first bunch. <G>

Broo,
I admit that I didn't know what you were refering to when you said "11/18 two years ago." For me, I had no idea that Segway's were being offered to the public, had not yet found this forum, and was studying for something. I do, however, remember 11/26 two years ago.
After researching FIRST, I was pleasently woken at 630 in the morning by my mother with the news that I had to wake up because Dean was calling. Yes, THE Dean was calling to answer questions about the history of FIRST as covertly organized by some very good friends. After walking around in a state of confusion for the rest of the morning, my father came home after work and told me he had a surprise. Not being a man to do anything spontaneously, he dropped the papers in my lap and said he'd heard an interview on NPR that day during lunch and decided to buy me a Segway. After picking my jaw up off the floor, I refused to believe him until two days later when the confirmation email arrived. . .and then the joy set in!
I still tease him about being jealous that DK called to wish me Happy Birthday and losing $5K just to "one-up" the man, but whatever the motivation it was a very very good year :)
