View Full Version : Preparation tips (Thanksgiving Trip)
Okay, I'm planning to go to NYC for Thanksgiving, driving there with a friend, 2 Segways in the back of the car.
Of course, I'm going to condition the batteries prior to the trip, but any additional advice for maximum enjoyment on the trip? I will of course, check the tires, and inflate them to slightly higher PSI than normal (I usually run at 17, but might consider higher if that is recommended).
Since it will be rather cold there in NYC this week, any tips on plugging in after trips? Should I wait the hour? Should there be a fan on the batteries?
Anything I have missed?
Thanks for any opinions!

P.S. Any updates on Segways being allowed in Central Park?

Hey Sal,
I'm heading east for Thanksgiving also. Driving to N. Philly area (Yardley, PA) - only about 70 mi. from Manhattan. Leaving in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, returning Sunday. I'm planning to bring my Segway (but the Wife doesn't know it yet). Maybe we could hook up with some of the SegNY/NYC folks ?? Anyone know the status of Segway acceptance, or practicality, in Liberty Park (Jersey)?
I doubt any special preparations are necessary for the trip. Why are you inflating your tires so high?? If you keep them at 17+ when it is cold, make sure to let some air out when they warm up, otherwise your pressure could increase significantly.

Sure could hook up! Though I don't know if any NY people will be in town. I posted an event in that section for Thanksgiving, and I think many are going to be out of town.
Thanks for the note about the tire pressure. Forgot about air expanding in warmth! ;)

Segway's (EPAMD's) are legal on the streets and sidewalks in New Jersey. Technically, a helmut is required, though.
I strongly doubt you will have any troubles a park such as Liberty Park.
Stu, I'll be around for Thanksgiving and would love to glide with you in Liberty Park. Let's see if we can get something up. When were you thinking of going?

Arriving in Yardley on Wednesday evening - busy with family on Thursday. I might be able to break away for a while on Friday or Saturday (but I'm sure there will be a bit of resistance). Then Sunday I head for home. I have to be careful that I don't eat so much turkey that it will put me over the weight limit ;). Enjoy yours - hope to see you next weekend! I'll be in touch.
