Brooster just called me. They have arrived ....late.
They were supposed to be there at 3:00 and didn't get there until 3:25.
After 4010 miles and 100 days you would think they'd had it down pat by now.
(Just kidding, guys)
First act - Josh throws tea into Boston Harbor. That will show those Brits.
Temperature around 42 and patches of snow on the ground.
Josh said they would have been on time but Boston doesn't like GPS and they got lost.
Congratulations on a fabulous feat.

Congratulations to the 10 mph crew.
It's been an incredible adventure that the naysayers said was doomed to failure and also proved what an incredible piece of machinery the Segway really is.
It took alot of chutzpah to perform this feat and I hope the 10 mph crew can capitalize on this and make some money, in fact lots of money on their documentary and photo shoots.
I'm glad I was able to meet the 10 mph crew along with some of the members of our Seg NYC group. They are a great bunch of people and they deserve recognition for this trip.
Once again;

Did they use one set of tires for the entire trip?
How did their legs hold-up?
How many sets of batteries were used?
FusionMag

From what I remember when I met up with them in OHIO they hadnt changed tires but they said that the tires began to look worn down. They were hoping that they would last the whole way. I am guessing that there was no need since there hasnt been a mention yet from the website. As far as the batteries go... they had about 16 batteries to go through on a daily basis. I asked Alon (GPS/DRIVER) about that and he mentioned that the batteries would last with all the charges throughout the whole trip.

When I got talk to Alon they said that LLC was interested in it. You know... evaluating all of the components to see how it withheld all of the journey. What would be cool is if SegWay did buy it from the crew and placed it in the lobby with a picture of the team.

For all the play LLC got from this, they should buy all the gear 10mph used and plane tickets home.
Josh told me they still have 70 miles remaining to get to the factory.
To me, that's another 7 hours 'in the saddle'.

It's interestting that LLC gave them no real supprt but now that the odyssey is over, they're interested in the Segway internal logs and things like that.

First off, the odyssey isn't over. The whole point of this venture is not to ride a Segway across the USA, but to make a documentary film about "The American Dream" while riding a Segway across the USA. No problem there, but I can imagine Segway LLC being very reluctant to fund such an project unless they had some sort of editorial control over the final product. The Kemper debacle is still too recent and the LLC isn't going to go through that again. It's best for the artistic integrity of Hunter and Josh that Segway LLC keeps their distance.

I agree, both parties will best be served by mutual respect and support, but don't mix artistic vision and business. The 10mph will have no problems finding big time funding and distribution if they have an entertaining and exciting film. This might just be the first of a 3 part trilogy: America, Europe & Asia for someone like History Channel, USA Network, BBC, ZDF or Channel 2 (Japan) or a partner deal of all three.
It is probably not a feature for the major studios, but all studios have distribution and related companies which would love this, Josh/Hunter, don't sell out too cheap or too soon and keep control.

I just got home from Boston, where I had the great pleasure of being on the scene as Josh came across the "finish line." I also bought him his first (well-deserved) beer.
The party was a great gathering! It was wonderful to see the 10mph crew again and meet their newest member, Rose. And it was really cool to see old SegwayFest 2003 friends Race3 (Marc) and Tobias, and to meet Karl. And the biggest surprise of the evening ... getting to see my old friend Kelsey!
We even had a random Seg sighting ... some guy on an i167 with a briefcase looped over his shoulders who passed the place at least three times, but never did stop and join us. Nobody seemed to know who he was. Oh well ...
I was able to grab breakfast with the crew at a little diner before I headed back to the airport this morning. Outside the diner, we were looking into a Boston Globe vending machine
and noticed that there was an article about the 10mph finish. Here's the story ...
http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2004/11/17/on_the_roll_again/
And yes ... Josh did finish on the original set of tires. They have a total of eight sets of batteries.
Congrats guys! I'm definitely glad I made the trip.

The tires are definitely well worn, but far from being "bald."
I needed to run back over to my hotel room (like three blocks away) last night to change clothes and grab some stuff, and asked if I could use Josh's i170. "Sure man, here's the keys." And off Karl and I went. We took the Segs straight into the hotel, up the elevator to the top floor, and right into my room. No questions asked. Here I am thinking to myself, "Okay, I'm Segging in downtown Boston, at night, acting like I know what I'm doing on the world's most famous Segway." It was AWESOME.
The control shaft on Josh's machine is like totally cashed ... all kinds of play in the handlebars, and Karl had to rig a shock cord around the upper CS to keep it from slipping down. I was later told that I just hadn't cranked the tightening sleeve quite tight enough ... I didn't want to crank it too tight. Anyway, it was great.
This is an i170 that definitely looks and feels like it went across the US. Apparently the LLC did replace the CS/handlebar assembly once during the trip, under warranty.
What's going to happen to this machine? We talked about that. There's no doubt in my mind that the LLC--or Dean--will want it as a trophy. I've lobbied hard against the team just "giving it away." An even-up swap for a new i170 (as apparently has been proposed) isn't nearly good enough for the work that these guys have done. It's my feeling that this Seg belongs either in Josh's house or in a museum that's willing to pay the price for it. Like the Smithsonian.
I do hope the LLC takes really good care of the team when they arrive in Bedford. This is a group of people who probably have done more for the Seg--and Segway LLC--than any of our local SEG groups. They definitely deserve the red carpet treatment, and to have the "business" side of the LLC wake up and realize what they've accomplished.
Here in Chicago in September, we had such a great time hanging out with these guys at a boat that belongs to some friends. I was thrilled to see that the following picture was used in the Boston Globe, and was happy to present the newspaper to the boat's owners here in Chicago this evening. They were totally jazzed.
http://www.10mph.com/photos/hunter/chicago/photo_chicago01.jpg
For someone from Chicago to have a little color picture of their boat in the Boston Globe is a pretty big deal. It just goes to show the lives that the 10mph team has touched along the way.
I look forward to hearing the stories from Bedford. It ain't over quite yet. I hope Dean invites them out to the house. To my way of thinking, this whole trip has a really natural fit with Dean's vision for what the Seg is all about, from small town to big city.
These guys have done it all.

I have to share a little story from my Boston visit that still makes me chuckle ...
I'd checked into my hotel room last Tuesday and hustled straight over to the Boston Sail Loft, a few blocks away, hoping to be there for the big finish. It was just about 3pm. As I walked up, I could see that the 10mph team wasn't there yet. "Cool ... great timing!"
There were maybe a dozen people standing around, most of them media people, waiting for the 10 mph team to arrive. And there was one guy on a Seg ... an e-Series. From pictures I'd seen here on the Chat, I knew immediately who it was.
I was just some guy on the street, walking along, and paused behind this Seg rider and halfway interrupted his conversation with the people he was talking to. "Hey, how fast does that thing go," I asked.
I almost saw the eyes start to roll ... like, "oh, here we go with the questions." Just as he was going to answer, I said: "Hey man, I'm Brooster." It was great. :D
Karl and I have had our minor tussles here on SegChat, but he's a great guy. I really enjoyed spending some time with him in real life, and being able to actually do some night Segging around Boston with him. I'm proud to have him as a friend. Thanks again to Josh for the use of the world's most famous Segway HT!
It was, in a way, like a mini SegFest. You don't really know a guy or gal until you meet them, and Karl's one of the good guys.
I neglected to mention earlier in this this thread that I met another SegwayChat member in Boston, Erin ... who goes by Errapi ... definitely one of the names that I remember from the "early days." Very cool gal.
I guess that's the way the Seg Community always has been. You hang around Segs, and meet cool people! I'm really happy that I went to Boston. That was a FUN evening, with a lot of very happy people.
I'll add that being there and seeing Josh throw tea into Boston Harbor is one of my best Seg memories ever.

I really enjoyed meeting the infamous Brooster in real life as well.
I have enjoyed my time since buying my seg, I have met many great people!
It's interesting, Broo and My simple little encounter seems to be the very essence of what the 10 MPH adventure was all about. Putting a face,a handshake, and a casual conversation to the whole country, instead of just blowing right past it all.
I have met some good people in my life and I am glad to include Broo among them.
And for those that just know me thru this forum, it just goes to show, I'm not really a cretin, I just play one on tv (Or on chat!)

I agree with Brooster that Karl is one of the good guys. I met him at SegwayFest and he was one of the most personable, passionate, and friendly people there. He offered my teenage son and I a chance to ride his E-series since we have a P. We just had a few questions about the electronic kick-stand function and he immediately wanted us to experience first hand getting off and on with e-stand.
He then encouraged my son to take his precious machine all the way up to top speed since he knew we had been limited to 10 mph on our P. Karl stood there calmly talking with me while I was watching with concern as my son whipped back and forth at the new top speed of 12 1/2 mph in the confines of the walled patio we were on.
Karl is one who obviously enjoys life and has a positive attitude. I found that I formed a very high opinion of almost all the people I met at Segway Fest. Most people had different attributes that I appreciated, but they all were great folks.
