Just spoke with Alon. The 10mph team is on-track for their big finish in Boston. They're east of Monson, Mass, heading for Grafton or perhaps a bit further east before stopping for the night. It may be a long night!

An early morning start tomorrow should put them within striking distance of their scheduled 3pm "official" coast-to-coast finish at Boston Harbor. The finish will be in front of the Boston Sail Loft seafood restaurant and bar, 80 Atlantic Avenue. The party will be at the same location, and begins at 6pm. See www.10mph.com for latest posted updates.

Congrats to the 10mph team! Seattle to Boston ... man, what a ride!

They're also on track for their roughly 70-mile "encore" ride up to Bedford, NH, and scheduled 2pm reception at Segway LLC headquarters on Thursday the 18th. Exactly two years from the day that Amazon began accepting consumer orders for the Seg, interestingly enough. See Jgrohol's thread in the events forum for details of the LLC gathering.

A great group of people, wished they lived in NYC. Thanks to all the members for sharing stories and a good time when they visited. Hope they stay in touch.

Hunter's just today (finally!) updated the photo section of the www.10mph.com site with photos from Ohio onward.

Better late than never! There's some great photography, as always, including more awesome shots of the autumn colors along the route.

It all comes to an "official" end tomorrow in Boston, with--I'm sure--a very Seg-weary Josh Caldwell. I don't know how the boy has done it, but he has. I'm jettin' out of Chicago in the morning and will be there at the finish, hoping to buy him a beer before he totally collapses. It should be a good party.

To me, this is about the most exciting thing we've seen--and may ever see--in the Seg world for a long time. A fully documented coast-to-coast Seg ride--one rider on one machine--may never happen again. I can't imagine why it would! :D

I'm spinning right back around and heading home on Wednesday, but I hope that several of you show up at the LLC on Thursday afternoon. While it's not the "official" end, it's the definite end of this expedition, and it's said to be open to the public.

If I know the people at the LLC, they'll make this an event to remember. The factory is pretty cool to see. It'd be very cool if they roll out the Centaur for people to check out. It'd be even cooler if the LLC gave the whole team brand new Segs, and shipped them to their homes. I think they've done the work to deserve them, and more.

Congrats again to the 10mph team. Woo Hoo!

Off to the Boston "tea party,"

Zorba's Mountaineer studded tires might help. LOL

I'm really impressed with the timing of this whole thing ... they only had one day (or night) of snow. It could have been a whole lot worse, and really screwed things up. As far as I know, they're still on the original set of tires I saw here in Chicago. I rode the machine for a bit. The tires showed a lot of wear and little cut marks, but they were still good.

I asked here in Chicago if the LLC had offered a set of the extended traction tires, and the answer at that time was no. All they'd provided was two sets of NiMH batteries. Hey, something's better than nothing, I guess.

It's cool how various companies have jumped on board to support the team throughout their trip, and you see that reflected in the logos on the team's Web site. I always hoped I'd see Segway's logo up there, and maybe it will be before it's all over, but the LLC needs to do something to really earn it.

That could change on Thursday. Let's hope so.

It would be neat to have Doug plug in their machine, and get an offical readout of the total hours put on the cross-country unit. I bet they'd love to get their hands on it, and see just how well it's held up.

There's no doubt in my mind that it'll be put "on the bench" in Bedford. It's one tough i170.

Getting it back from the LLC will be the challenge. Don't let 'em have it, Josh!

One of my favorite pictures ... little kid playing "army," like we all used to do.

Kudos to Josh for going the distance. Plucky lad.
Looks like the 10mph crew will beat Thomas Stevens' 1884 San Francisco-Boston time by about 3 days. ;)

If riding 2 hours is fun, then riding 20 hours is 10 times more fun.

Wow, they made it all the way to Natick last night ... that's like a far western Boston suburb! I would say they'll definitely be where they need to be at 3pm today. Now I just need to get there.

Outta here ...
