I just got to thinking again...Dooh! Gosh it happens all the time. :)

After looking at some of the pics Macgeek posted on that Ny meeting I noticed several things that caught my eye, also. One was, I guess a red reflector on the back lower corners of someones rear fenders. I don't know if they are reflectors or taillights. But I was thinking that I think if they were red reflectors that they would help define the shape of the Seg from the rear in nitetime glides for added safety. Is anyone making or selling stick-on reflective tri-angular tape for the bottom of the fenders yet? I got to thinking that if you could get a hold of the the reflective tape like on the side edges of semi trailers, and trim them, that would work.

Along those lines or reflection, Has anyone thought about painting their whole HT with reflective paint, as in with glass. You know like Stop signs, or highway signs, when light hits it, it illuminates. Like on the sidewalls of the tires too. Has any one done this yet?

Then after seeing a pic of Stan's copper machine and his tray, I was thinking and wondering if anyone has yet thought of making a tray like that and putting a fat strip of that foam type pool tube float or insulation material on the outer edge to aid in the protection or damage should anyone hit something or wipe out and have the handlebars slam into the pavement and break. Wouldn't this sort of idea help to at least protect the HT? As for the rider, get a helmet :)

the red reflectors are mine,
I put them where my seg got bumped when I went to hawaii,
It's velcro, and then on the other side of the velcro I put red reflector tape.

Hmm, a day glo seg.. hmm hmm!

No thoughts on the tube float handlebar protection, Huh?

Well, after reading my post again, another thought came to mind. Just a thought mind you. :)

I know it might take a little say, re-engineering of the handlebars. What if say, you didn't like the foam insulation for the crash protection idea, do you think maybe a set(two wheels) to act as rollers?. One at each end of the elbow, where the handlebars stick out in front the most. With say one way rolling or ratcheting resistance. They would be high density foam or gum rubber to first absorb shock of impact, then roll into the direction of the fall. This would prevent the added pressure of, say, an impact, where the handlebars would most likely dig in and buckle or stop furthur movement on the direction of the HT. Plus with the one way ratcheting or movement you could still lean it against something and not roll away from the wall. Do you think this would help in that respect? Hey, I guess you could call them "Training Wheels" :)

I'd love to see a set of after market carbon fiber or resin handlebars, as the biggest problem with the current CS is the weak point where the CS and crossbar meet. They don't buckle, they snap or shatter. A significant smack on one corner will crack them in the middle to the tune of $300 way too often.

I've purchased from a bicycle store reflectors similiar to those shown....they come in triangular and circular shapes. They are a 3M product just peel and place. They come in green and red. In addition to the trianular placed on the backside, I've put the circular shapes in the wheel wells which help side visibility at night.

I am going to see about putting a small foam/plastic gaurd on the leading edge of my handlebar shelf. I am going to try a strip of the stuff I can buy to go on the edge of a car door to protect against hitting other doors.

Cool Stan. I was hoping maybe you'd give it a try. Be sure to get pics for us. I don't know whether you will be able to find it in copper, tho. :)
