How well can the Segway work on the
O'Hare Airport moving sidewalks? escalators?
I can't speak to moving sidewalks, but I wouldn't ride one on an escalator. Use an elevator, instead.

Just speculation, but I would think that if you 'ginger'ly try to get on a moving sidewalk, at the moment of contact the wheels would be pulled forward, your inertia would cause your center of gravity to tilt back and the seg would try to roll back and off the sidewalk. If you tried to get on at some speed, there would be some wobbling but eventually things would smooth out and you'd be travelling at the sum of the segway and sidewalk speeds. At the sidewalk exit, I think there would be an opposite action. All things considered, I recommend power assist.

Probably best to avoid the moving sidewalks, considering that you are already riding one. Beside, you will avoid the possibility of the embarrassment sure to follow if you fall.

There was a thread about this some time ago. Someone tried it and reported the results, but I don't remember the details.

I glide on a small 4 car ferry across Newport Harbor here in So Cal, my first trip was fun, a different concept than the moving sidewalk but being stationary on a moving object going forward was a kick!
I stood still and the HT just rolled backwards at the same speed of the ferry! All I had to do was take over, weird feeling at first, but not a problem!
I would jump on a rolling sidewalk in a heart beat!
Easy on easy off! Just know your own limits!

I have been working too hard!
I was planning to post how I went 18 MPH on my E series!
While comming home from Segfest, I was at Logan Airport, and encountered a moving sidewalk. (Horizontal escalator)
I got on and rode the wrong way, and while maintaining a static position relative to the wall, it seemed that the walkway was going about 5 MPH.
I turned around, and rode fast! If I had GPS, it would have said I was going almost 18 MPH!
I will post more details later.
By the way, transisitons on and off were easy. No problems at all, and I was expecting some, but they never materialized...

Each road you travel should be just a bit better for having had you pass.

I take mine up escalators all the time in Power Assist Mode with me one stair up holding the Segway.
I wouldn't leave it in Balance Mode leaning against an escalator stair.
I tried doing that once with me one stair up waiting to catch it up top and it triggered a trap of some sort in the escalator (a safety measure - I guess it sensed something was getting "trapped" between the stairs) and it suddenly stopped.
