Anyone getting together this weekend when the 10MPH group is coming through Chicago?

Hi Skip, I sent them an e-mail today with my phone contact info, telling them I'd enjoy driving over to say hello when they're in the area. Maybe you and I can hook up and go together, or meet wherever they happen to be. I'll let you know if I hear from them.

Welcome home Robert! Looking forward to hearing the stories of your trip to Ireland. Every time I go through the jetlag thing, I have a whole new appreciation for what LadyBroo does ... sometimes as many as three trips back-to-back.

Just got home from Segging over and meeting up with the 10mph crew at the Uncommon Ground coffee house, only a mile and a half or so from where I live. Great folks ... I really enjoyed meeting them, hearing the stories, and I hope to hook up with them again before they leave the area.

If any of you have an opportunity to hook up with these folks along their route, please do. Really nice people.

Skip called this morning and is on his way to meet up with the 10mph guys at Illinois Institute of Technology. I have the Chicago Marathon going right past my condo building right now, so I can't get my car out of the garage. They've invited us to ride with them in the Columbus Day parade tomorrow, so I may take them up on the offer. They only have two Segs, so it might be nice if a few of us could "fill in the ranks" a bit. The parade starts at 12:30 at the corner of Columbus and Balbo, and 10mph will be the final unit in the parade.

They'll be at the aforementioned intersection at 12:30pm ... the rig (SUV and trailer) will be part of the parade.

We had the privilege of getting the entire 10mph crew out on the Big Lake tonight, blowing through 3-5 foot waves, on a restored 1963 32-foot steel-hulled Chris Craft Roamer with twin Chevy 350 cubic inch engines. This boat MOVES, and punches through the big Lake Michigan waves like nobody's business.

Skip was onboard with us ... we all had a great sunset tour of Navy Pier and the whole Chicago skyline.

I got to ride THE cross-country i170 right out onto the dock at Diversey Harbor ... a great honor. Y'know, it's in pretty good shape, considering what it's been through. The tires are definitely seriously worn down, and do look like they have the 3,000 miles on them that their owners say they have. But the tires look like they're certainly good for more.

Anyway, we got the 10mph team out for a good look at our city from a mile or two out on the lake, with a wonderful orange sunset in the background behind the buildings.

My thanks go to my dear friends Dennis and Diane and the yacht TRESCHE CONCA. Their OctoberFest hospitality of beers, grilled sausages, cheeses, etc. was just awesome. And then a boat ride on top of it! Autumn in Chicago doesn't get much better than this.

The 10mph group are still a long way from "home," but I have 100% confidence that these guys are going to make it. There's no question in my mind.

Just got a call from Alon ... they just pulled into Michigan City, Indiana, near the Indiana/Michigan border.

There's a nice picture of the sunset from our Chicago boat ride on the front page of www.10mph.com.

A photo of Josh down by the boat here in Chicago. He did a few 360's at the end of the dock. LadyBroo and I are leaving later this morning to help move the boat back to its boatyard for the winter season. It was 32 degrees at O'Hare airport this morning. I guess it's time!

The 10 mph team is making good progress, working their way across eastern Michigan on their way to Toledo.

As the 10MPH group were leaving Seattle, the Seattle Times predicted they would not even make it across the state to Walla Walla, WA, let alone across the USA. Boy were they wrong. Unfortunately, we were nearing the end of a one month trip and a day late in getting to see them go through this area. However one of our group nearby heard of it and joined them for a while. And they said it couldn't be done!!!

When I heard about 10mph I laughed and predicted they wouldn't make it out of Washington.

When they stopped in Boise and I actually met them I didn't believe they would make it past Denver. I would have put money on it. Nice guys and all, but still.

I'm impressed that they've gotten so far. It's hard for me to imagine that they didn't strangle each other due to boredom, get into a horrific traffic accident or give up for any one of a hundred other reasons.

Perhaps they'll actually make it. But I wouldn't want to suspend my disbelief. Here is my latest prediction:

There is *NO WAY* they'll make it to Pittsburg! ;)

OOPS! I guess the "source" is as good as the recent election polls!
I agree - they will make it.

As long as we're revisiting this thread, here's a nice shot from our boat ride with the 10mph guys. A view of our city at its finest!

It looks like the author of the article got it right. But the headline writer didn't actually read the article closely enough to do an accurate headline.

You are right. When I went back to the article it did mention how far they made it so far. The headline was a "disconnect" for sure!
Anyway, he can save the headline and use it another day.

Check out their Web site right now ... www.10mph.com

They're there. Except they seem to have forgotten that they're no longer in Ohio. "Pittsburg, OH." LOL

PS: I just called Alon on his cell phone ... he said, "ooops!" He's fixing it right now. They are indeed in Pittsburgh, on someone's roof and watching (and filming) the lunar eclipse.
