I was gliding along as usual on the commute to work and noticed a distinct new rattle. It SEEMS to be coming from the rear, right side. It occurs reliably (nearly every time) whenever there is even a little bump in the road and it's accompanied by what seems to be more than the usual sideways wobble of the stick & platform. The sound sounded like the fender or battery mount was loose or some such thing. I stopped and looked at the wheels, battery, etc. after a few occurrences. The wheels seem little loose (as in I can shake them a bit) but they could well have always been that way. And I noticed that the rattle is there even when walking the Segway with the power off. When I got back on for the rest of the way into work (about another 4 miles after the stop), the problem persisted but all else seemed okay. I did notice for the first time that I was able to steer a bit by shifting weight but that could have always been true and I simply didn't notice it for the first month of gliding.
The problem is that I am now at work in an office building with no wrench to check the tightness of the wheelnuts. Is this a familiar sound and situation? Can I glide home safely?
Thanks.

I have now talked to one of the SEgway CS people on the phone and, while I don't know the exact problem, I did learn that I should check tire pressure and that I should find a tire wrench before heading home. Will do.

Roger, I think I had the same noise I noticed it going over rough pavement in a school yard, my wheels were tight.
What model HT do you have, I have a I170.
Good luck.

I have the I-170. I should have mentioned that. I am leaving for home in a bit so maybe I'll know soomething more definitive about all this later.

Well, I got home. The rattle occurred a few times as I started out and then less & less frequently along the 8 miles until it seemed to be gone. I don't get it. Are these gizmos self-healing? I figure something got tweaked back into alignment on one or more of the little bumps along the way.

Is it possible that you picked up something like a stick or bottlecap or something that got wedged loosely between wheel and fender? After a while it worked loose?
I feel these things are good, but I'm not quick to go for self healing...

Each road you travel should be just a bit better for having had you pass.

My car is self-healing too. Ran like crap last Sunday. Started it up on Monday to take it to the mechanic ... had the Seg all loaded up to ride home ... and it ran fine. I left it at the mechanic's anyway, just for the Seg ride home and back. Mechanic never did find anything wrong with it ... but I got an oil change and two good Seg rides out of the deal. :)
