New Segway owner, LOVE IT! One question, do you think it should go faster? Like maybe 18-20 mph? Just a thought....

I have always wanted the same. I think the technology and function as well as the battery consumption would be worth it, but the powers that be don't currently agree.

Much of what is being presented as Segway, is that it replaces walking. At 20 MPH, it would be arguable that it no longer is simply walking with wheels.

If the Segway was programed to go faster, we probably would have seen some serious accidents by now. At the current speed, most mishaps have been survivable.

If you bring one to Australia they go up to 20Km/H.

I think that the Canadian ones go faster too.

and if you ride one in a spaceship travelling the speed of light, time would slow down, relatively speaking.

Ehem... 20 Km/H = 12.43 MPH. It's all the same speed. Everyone has to remember that we Americans are still stuck on th english-system of measurement.

Thanks Hauptagon,

Your comparitive analisys of Km/H to MPH explains the Austrailian situation, But what about the Canadian issue?

If younger Canadian's go faster, I'd not argue. But since I am old enough to remember Imperial measurments, shouldn't older Canadian machines go slower...

Realistically, while the design is capable of considerably faster speeds (seems to me I read something that said the design was capable of around 21mph) my own testing says that stopping at extremely high speeds would be somewhat difficult to control because those same motors that can torque you up to speed fast can also stop you faster than your body might be able to react. On the right surface, you can spin the tires BACKWARD when stopping hard, and you all know how HT reacts to skids or anything that seems like it...

Oooh! Painkillers!

Tell 'em about the time you hauled home that big ol' value-pack of toilet paper! LOL :D

Ahh, the things that can be carried on a Seg ... always amazing.

Unlike a bicycle, the faster a Segway goes - the less stable it becomes. Twelve point five is plenty for a stock Seg. Speed mods should be left up to those who are aware of and willing to accept the added risk.

I thinks the Segway on the Equator moves the fastest!

It's all kinda "relative." In my experience...

A Segway HT on the sidewalk is amazingly fast.
-yet-
A Segway HT on the street with cars (in bike lanes) is very slow.

I'm quite happy with the top speed and I'm gliding on a p Series.

I agree, it is relative.

Some of my relatives think I go too fast, and some think I go too slow (Mostly the young ones).

Of course, some think I'm a bit of a nut, but most of them are in-laws. My blood relatives know so.

If I remember things correctly, the comments about segways on the equator would have to go about a 1000MPH just to stand still. Up here in Boston, I think about 450 MPH would do the trick. On the north pole, stay still and rotate.

I wasn't asking for 450 MPH, just 17 or 20. Seems like a bargain to me...
