well I got my "chrome?" wheels today

to some degree it appears to be more of a blue (or black) "chrome"

not really sure of my thoughts as yet - will have to mount and contemplate

the picture in the new catalog seems more like truer chrome color

we'll see

no extended batteries however were included

preliminary pixs at www.sonyguy.com/chrome1

I think I'll check next on ordering the bumblebee segway outfit in the catalog!!!!

It looks very texture-ish. Very thin plating if that's what it is. Is the same on the inside of the wheel? Is it part of the plastic - will it chip off?

I think a different style of wheel is in order.

inside of wheel not finished - coating is a little blotchy in places - seems hard, but of course I'm not going to scratch it to see how hard it is - will reserve my decision until after mounted - a little diffuclt to take pixs of since if the carpet is red, is takes on the red. - again the catalog seems to show it being more of a chrome color - this "chrome" looks like it had blue or black mixed in - we'll see.

Trying to decide if I want the chrome wheels or the color hubs from RJ Works (I think that's the name). Wonder could I chrome there hubs?

they told me right now only 3 colors plus clear - my problem was 3-4 week delivery - they will also paint your fenders - they seem to do a nice job - can you chrome aluminum?

From the photo of the wheels I think the quality (on a scale on 1-10) is a 5. I'm sure or hope they look better than they do on my computer.
I would think the chrome would be as good or better than the chrome on a plastic toy car.

I've painted with (spray can) chrome paint that looks better.

Powder coat chrome looks better.

You may have just gotten a bad set of wheels.

I'm sure that the wheels are actually chrome plated, but you do have to realize that it is chrome plating over plastic. While I am sure that it is thicker plating than you would get on some toy it can never be quite as good as that on something such as a metal wheel. The main problem lies in the fact that all they use is a stadard plastic wheel that we all already have and plate it. Since they all have a texture to them and you can really sand plastic and get a smooth finish (at least not easily), all of the chromed wheels will probably look like this. If the wheel was smooth (such as maybe a p wheel) then you would get some nice looking chrome.

I think they look nice. Would probably look really good on a 170.

Well I'm glad I got a heads-up with those photos. I am VERY disappointed with the apparent lack of quality of these "chrome" wheels. When I hear "chrome", I think "shiny, mirror-like" finish. I agree that this "textured" finish is likely caused by using the existing wheels with a chrome plating. For good-looking chrome wheels the mold for the plastic should be polished to provide a perfectly smooth substrate for the plating. I would DEFINITELY NOT buy these ... I expected MUCH better from LLC.

I had originally, from looking at the catalog, expected more chrome like rims

last year I was going to have a company "chrome" them but they were moving and timing was not right

you can see their work including I believe a video of the process at

http://www.spraychrome.com/o/sc1/index2.htm

I will install these on an i170 and seeif looks any better

Richard, I hope you enjoy them. From the pix so far though they don't look like I would want them to look for the money. If you aren't "completely satisfied" make sure you get your money back.

the "chrome" wheels look like as if they were the normal wheels, and
had a glossy paint put on them.

Exactly. Mine arrived a couple of days ago. The look is a big improvement over the plain wheels, but I am disappointed with the lack of finish apparent throughout. I'll still keep them, but I too would have expected a greater degree of finish and detail. Tom Barnes

Looks like I may have to go with RJ Works and see if they can chrome me some snap on hubs. I think they would look great on my Midnight Special.
