The Torch for the special olympics was carried by Comander Scott Smith of the Pismo Beach Police department.
Officer Smith who was schedualed in the run had suffered from a pulled hamstring but still had a strong desire to participate in the event.
Seeing me ride the Segway arround the neighborhood and through a few inquires he came to my home the day before the event. We got to work immidiatly.
We started on the black key and away we went. Circle, back and forth, right left and down the drive way. The safty video was in the chief of police's office I suggested STRONGLY that he watch it.
We video taped the liablity contract and operatoin reqiurements for the Segway. He owned a ford taurus, it would'nt fit in the back because of the shot gun rack.
I sent him off with out the cord and he almost forgot the keys, Gaurentee for call back if he was watching the video, He came back to pick up the cord and the pump and the allen wrench. He seemed pretty nervous but expressed excitment about the run.
The next morning I grabed my skateboard and headed up the start point. They were staged at the top of PCH near Shell Beach elementery, the route went through shell beach and down PCH to the most northern point of the city of pismo.
I left 10 min befor the tourch arrived to check the road for obstruction that may be hazzards. I stoped at the corner of PCH and Pier shot video of the torch going by. I hoped on my skateboard ad approched Scott with a "How do you like that thing" Suprised to see me on a skateboard and with that ingenious smile he responds with a "GREAT!!!"
We talked and rolled for about a block and discussed the segways performance I took a look at the battery and let him know he could keep the machine until 3 PM (I had to go back to work).
Free T-shirt and mabey the news, I didnt see the news.
I asked him to look at the draft website
The volenterees need them "Hint Hint".
