SEG America, the national Segway Enthusiast Group of America is pleased to finally be able to announce the winner of the free Segway Human Transporter I-series giveaway. This machine was graciously donated by Segway LLC for the purposes of this giveaway to help get SEG America started.

There were more than 3,000 people entered in the drawing, but only one person could win it. The winner was chosen by randomly picking one entry from this list. We contacted the winner privately so that we could confirm his eligibility and make sure all of the paperwork was in place before we made the public announcement. This has been done.

The winner is Jeff McCabe from Texas, currently attending school at the University of Oklahoma with a Mechanical Engineering major. We have spoken with the Jeff on the phone and he is absolutely thrilled to have won the free Segway HT.

Here is what Jeff has to say about the Segway HT and being the winner:

quote:Ever since I was 2 years old and took apart my family’s lawnmower I have been intrigued by technology. All throughout my youth and on through my teenage years my mind was like a sponge sucking in all of the developments in technology made around me everyday. When I heard that there was a new secret invention coming from Mr. Kamen I knew that it would be one of the most significant developments in technology relating to the transportation in recent years. What I didn’t know was that what later became the Segway would become much more. Segway became not only a great advancement in the way we get around but also a way to get people together that appreciate what it is.

When I signed up for SEG America I signed up due to what the Segway stood for not expecting to win anything since I never have won more than $20. Being a mechanical engineering student in college I truly do understand the effort put forth by Mr. Kamen and his team to create this technical work of art. At first I didn’t believe that I had won, but after the reality hit me, I began to think of all the ways I could use it. Not to mention that I am going to be the only person on campus with one and will probably catch quite a bit of attention.

I would like to thank everyone at SEG America for putting this together and allowing a person that dreamt big to have his dream come true.

Jeff is a new member to Segway Chat and will join in this topic as soon as he sees it. So, feel free to welcome him into the fold.

On behalf of the Executive Board of Seg America and all of it's members, congratulations Jeff. From our conversations on the phone, we can see that you greatly appreciate this opportunity and will make very good use of your Segway HT. We look forward to your activities here on Segway Chat and with SEG America.

I thought I'd go ahead and say hello to everyone. I am looking forward to sharing my experiences as I have seen many of you have been doing. It has been quite hard to keep this a secret for as long as I have and it is quite a relief to be able to talk to everyone about this exciting event in my life. Now all I have to do is try and contain everything and try to wait for "IT" to get here. For all of the members that live in Norman you are more than welcome to get up with me and come check it out. I won't get back up there until the mid part of August to go back to school but just send me a message and we can wor something out. Same goes to all of you that live in Moore or OKC. Just get up with me. I'm more than willing to share this experience with anyone I can. Especially my fellow members on this forum and of SEG America. I just would like to thank all of the officers of SEG America as well as Segway LLC for giving me something that I quite literally had dreams about for a month after it got announced. I never thought I'd have an opportunity quite like this and am looking forward to what is to come.

Welcome to the "Winner's Circle" Jeff! I can appreciate how excited you must be ... I won mine at the first SegwayFest in Chicago last summer, and I have had a BLAST with it ever since. Hope you can find a way to join us at SegFest '04, where you will be able to witness Dean pulling my winning raffle ticket again to complete my matched set of HT's.
Congratulations, and have fun with it ... responsibly!

And by the way, last year two million exciting technical jobs went unfilled in this country because you weren't there to take that job. And it pays you 10 times as much as flipping burgers, and it's fun and it's exciting and you get to create things and build things and help make the world a better place and help make yourself a better living.’ Who tells them this?”

Jeff, welcome to SegwayChat and the gliding community. Like earlier posts have stated, you are now a member of a special group. Use the group to expand your experiences and post your experiences. Our only requirement is be responsible. We have a good record so far.

Jeff, please chip in on this thread when you get here, so you can let us know your handle, etc. "Indy" was a winner of an HT at last year's SegwayFesT! 2003, and everytime he writes that thought comes through in his posts. We're so glad to have him, and you, here.

I'm planning on adding an entire page or two to my website to add some pictures and more info on my wonderful prize once I get it. I'm hoping to go to SegwayFest but it's all a matter of money and whether I have conflicts with school. Thanks for all the support you are giving me and I look forward to the future with you all.

Congratulations Jeff! You are going to love the glide! Our Oklahoma Segway laws are among the best, so enjoy the fun! Looking forward to hear of great Segway news from OU. Dual downtown glides are always a possiblity, weather permitting! Just stay clear of those tornadoes when driving through Moore!

Jeff, does it feel good to finally be able to talk about it?

That would be a definite yes Stan. It's pretty hard to try and keep something like this a secret for as long as I had to but it feels pretty good to be able to let it out now. Thanks again for the opportunity. Mzokc I think I'll make quite a stir on the OU campus especially among my engineering buddies that all seem to have a fascination with the Segway. It will be a blitz of demos when I get back to Norman.

Thanks again to everyone. I'm already beginning to come up with questions before it has even gotten here and you all seem to know the answers to those questions. I think I'm really gonna like hanging out in this forum.
