View Full Version : Mounting bicycle accessories?

Hi Folks,

I have a Magellan Platinum GPS and a bike mount bracket for it, but it doesn't adapt well to the Seg's handlebars... it sort of works, but it's at an inconvenient angle and thus difficult to read. There are one or two other bike accessories such as a light, maybe a cycle computer, maybe a bell, which I wouldn't mind mounting too, but all of them are designed to be mounted on bike-handlebar-diameter pipe.

What I think would be handy would be a piece of (aluminium?) tube of appropriate diameter, flattened and drilled on each end and appropriately shaped so that it could be attached to the handlebar assembly by the 2 screws underneath and form a loop slightly forward of the handlebars to provide a mount for bike bits... None of them are too heavy so I'm guessing the screws could handle the weight?

This is pretty elementary and I would have thought fairly easy to make if you were experienced with pipe bending, I'd happily pay $30.00 or more for such an item. Anybody know if such a thing exists? Or anything else designed to help fit bike bits to Segways?

Cheers

Ron

Nice idea!

If you had a 12.0 bag you could mount it to that, like Terry P did.

Here's another method, used by Richard Schnell;

Try some of the mounting stuff here:

It's for motorcycles, but they don't have bicycle handlebars so maybe an adaptation could work for fancier needs.

Good photo! Thanks Rich...

Actually, I've got one of the "hard" bags, and that photo has given me some ideas, but I still think a bracket like I've described would be more useful. I don't actually like the Segway bag much, it's inconvenient and frankly the IBM backpack I mostly use(free from a tradeshow) slung over the handlebars works better!

Cheers

Ron

Garmin has several new GPS units that you wear like a wristwatch. You could probably strap one of those to the handlebars if you didn't want to wear it. You can check them out at garmin.com.
