Watch out leaning into those turns.
OUCH! NO fenders ... that's scary!

Alright Rich - Bet those babies will go thru sand like crazy! Chop and extend some of LLC's blemished fenders and you've solved the rooster tail problem in mud & water.

No, not Photoshop, they're real. No innertubes either, just air inside.

Great job! We want details!

Especially performance details. New top speed?
Skunk stripes up the pants from mud? Loud on pavement?

Not too many details yet, just did it this morning. Performance on wet grass is spectacular, I tried hard but could not get it to slip.
Speed should be a little bit faster since the diameter is 1.75" greater.
I wouldn't say it is loud on pavement, just not as quiet as with the street tires.

Those are some serious tires for the mud and moss up here in the Northwest.

It had to happen sooner or later. Let me guess, 90/100-14 or inch equivalent right? Did you know the 60/100-14 will fit under the fenders? Who wants to be the first to put them on a P? As they said on the X-files: "The tire is out there." Good luck.
A few leads.

So they are dirt-bike-tires then? No wonder the knobs are so big!

Yup, they're dirt bike tires. I almost went with the 60/100's but decided I may as well "go all the way".
It really was easier than I thought it would be. I think I had read here before how difficult is was to remove the Seg tires - just isn't so. All you need is a couple tire irons.
A couple tips for anyone wanting to try this;
Remove the tire from the "outside" side of the rim. The inside flexes to much when prying the tire off, might break it
Use a ratchet strap around the tire to force the bead to the rim. The dirt tire is designed for a much narrower rim and fits very loosely on the Seg rim. You may not get enough force with a regular tiedown strap or rope, this is the hardest part.
Cost: $78.00 for two tires, $20.00 for two tire irons, 40 minutes of time. Less than a hundred bucks. Order a pair of tires from Segway and you can have a set of Super Enhanced traction tires for a hundred less than the standard Enhanced Traction tires.

After some consideration I decided to try the smaller 60/100 size tires so that I wouldn't have to deal with modifying fenders. Another benefit is that the smaller 60/100's will have more climbing power, they are slightly smaller in diameter than the standard street tires.
The problem with these tires is that they are made for a very narrow rim, they are only 60mm, the Seg tires are 100mm wide. It was quite difficult to get them to inflate and spread out. Even then they leaked around the edges. The solution is to install an inner tube. I considered using Slime to keep it from leaking but felt that an innertube was more reliable. Certainly wouldn't want to deal with an un-beaded tire somewhere off road.
Here's a few pics of my beta testers trying out these new tires.

Rich,
Hey, who's your beta tester? That looks fun. Make sure he knows to leave some space between him and the control shaft -- it's amazing that he was leaning over the HT like that on grass and all and did okay :)

Actually, those are two different testers. Being light in weight they had difficulty leaning far enough forward to make it up the hill. Those tires did incredibly well. The slope was about 40 degrees and the tires did not slip even once. Unless you count when one of them rode over a rock.[:o]
I'm very impressed with the climbing ability of the Seg with these tires. It's a lot of fun too! :D

I can see it now... a HillClimb event on Segways.
Has everyone else seen the motorcycle hillclimbs a bunch of insane people do from time to time? Find the steepest hill you can and try to ride up it on two wheels as fast as possible. =) When do we start??

Yes, I had to drill a 5/16" hole in the center of the rim to accomodate the valve stem. Now I have to inflate from the inside since the valve stem is not accesible from the outside.
