Hi,
I just got my Segway P and would like to own multiple power cables (one for home, one for lab, one for office etc). So I don't have to carry the cable with me. This cable looks very familiar like the ones I plug into my computers, so I'm curious, is it proprietary and hence must be purchased from Segway or not? What have the experienced folks around Segway Chat done for themselves previously?
Thanks for any feedback,
Doug

It is the same plug that your printer and computer uses. Radio Shack carries it. Often I find them in the trash when someone throws away a computer or printer.

This is a great tip, Doug... I have a cable plugged in at home , and one underneath my desk at work... It's very convenient!

Just be sure that when you plug it in the shank is long enough. The cue will be that the lights will start to blink, and check later to be sure they're still blinking - i.e., the plug hasn't popped out.

Well I guess I'm in the wrong business. Looks like dumpster diving could become quite profitable. Check this out - Some people will buy ANYTHING.

There's "one" born every minute ... these cords are "a dime a dozen".

Did you notice that the cord on e-bay will fit the I and the H model? It's that ability to fit the H that makes it so valuable.

I know they make cables with a little LED indicator that shows when its in use. Seems like a great idea since the segways charge indicator is below the plug [:p]

Speaking of power cords....
I was thinking today that I don't plug my segway into a surge protector like I do with my computers. Then started thinking about when I read the manual and I don't recall this as a recommendation. What do you guys think? Is it necessary or is there a built in safeguard?

The cords that aren't quite long enough can easily be made to work by cutting the shoulder back a tad with a sharp knife.
Also, if you should get the ARC headlight, it comes with a 3' cord that fits the p-series bag nicely.

I like to use a UPS (un-interrupted power supply) I picked one up on sale for $19. It comes with a $250,000 protection warranty but who knows if Energizer would ever actually shell out that much.
I like using a UPS- It keeps the power flowing constantly and will keep it from dropping into trickle charge if the power flickers.

I will charge where ever I can the power. Under the table behind the curtain is a 100 pound boat storage battery, Inside the upper box is a 300 watt inverter. Normaly we don't use the big battery it is too heavy too deal with, we have a smaller storage battery that will last the day, but not enough to spare for the Segway. This was our opening day with added art project and a music video recorded earlier in the day.
