Monday afternoon March the 1st while practicing for my first First performance, while doing a hard left turn there was a purring type vibration coming from the right gear box. The week before during a hard acceleration turn I noticed a similar vibration but didn’t think much of it. As time went on it got worse.
Figured it was time to call Dave at Segway, at first he thought it was a defective gear box. His next question was what was my ship date? 2/25/03 meant my warrantee had expired a week before, my pocket was starting to hurt. We talked again Tuesday after he spoke to some of the engineers. It was decided that the problem was the urethane couplers between the motors and the gearboxes. The replacement of the couplings requires open heart surgery and a return to the Mothership. Glad the shipping box had been saved.
Wednesday morning Dave called to say that Segway would honor its warrantee because the problem had started before it had expired and he had mailed a shipping label.
Bax shipping was great, pick up and delivery were on time.
The technicians at Segway did a great job, replacing both couplings they even glued my cracked fender. They let me keep my original 10.0 software. Now the machine tracks straight and rides so smooth it is better then new.
I must admit that I have been rough with my machine curb hopping towing around my skating buddies. Segway knew all this and did the right thing by me. When you buy a Segway you get the state of the art in transportation technology and service.
Here is where the problem lies what if something else breaks? I would gladly pay for an extended warrantee if they offered one.
