View Full Version : Another Segway Chat?????

It's been almost 2 months since our online chat with Doug Fields. Segway has promised or alluded to more of an open environment and interchange of ideas, so "ARE WE GOING TO HAVE ANOTHER ONLINE,CHAT?"

There are a number of topics, as well as new people who could join or represent Segway in a chat.

With everything that is happening, SEG America, new hirings at Segway, and Segfest, I would hate to see the online chats with a Segway representative fall by the wayside and become a one-time memory.

Agreed (I missed the first one)!! Are any of the "powers that be" working on this?? Any info would be appreciated ...

And by the way, last year two million exciting technical jobs went unfilled in this country because you weren't there to take that job. And it pays you 10 times as much as flipping burgers, and it's fun and it's exciting and you get to create things and build things and help make the world a better place and help make yourself a better living.’ Who tells them this?”

Ditto. And if the meeting could be held a bit later in the evening so that it doesn't coincide with the commute time for the Mountain and Pacific time zones, that would help...

Why? He's not going to tell you any secrets.
They are working on stuff right now that would be of interest to us but they won't tell.
They read SC everyday, if they were interested in talking to us they would.
It would have been good if from day one they were on SC talking to us.

I don't think we're looking for any secrets Wayne. An open dialogue is what we want. An open dialogue is what Segway said they would give us. Sure, there are things I want to know, in particular what they are planning for NYC, which goes public today, but they are not going to say anything. That's a disappointment, but I'm looking to the future here.

In my business I don't give out any secrets. If I'm working on something that I'm not ready to go public with I won't tell either.

While I look forward to having an open dialogue with Segway, even if it is only what they want to talk about but that's more that we had before. Segway made the effort with their first online chat, I don't want to see it end there.

And if Segway does read everything we say here, then they know what our expectations are. If they don't or won't work with us, Segway clones will be built by others and we'll buy their product.

Harley Davidson almost went out of business in the '70's because of a similar attitude. Now they are flourishing and are as open as they could be with their customers. The Japanase motorcycle clones almost put them out of business. The same could happen with Segway.

So it is in their best interest to be open if that is what their customers are asking. I'm not looking for trade secrets or finanacials from them, just an opportunity to express my concerns and thoughts and vice versa.

Well said.
I really wasn't looking for any trade secrets but let us know if or what is going on with the battery and software problems. Also let us know what they are doing (if anything) to help legalize the Seg so that when someone puts down 4K they can ride it other than the back yard.

Other words, call to say hello and let us know that they appreciate the problem solving we have helped them do in the past year. After all we have been doing the testing for them the last year and I'm 100% sure they have benefited from it.

Seg-On (Boy the weather is great today. Come 6:00 I'm headed for a spin.)

Matt (legal) and Joe (marketing) from Segway LLC both came to the hearing in NYC today, and Matt spoke. I'll let Itsi or Joanne or one of the other New-Yorkers fill you all in tonight, but this is just one way we're seeing in which Segway is working to create a positive regulatory environment for the evolution of transportation, especially the Segway HT.

And BTW, the proposed NYC bill as it is worded now is designed to ban the sale or use of all non-car motorized devices (even golf carts, it came up at the hearing today) from all public and private property--not just streets. So Segway is even fighting for use on private property. It appears that they are doing a lot to keep us on good legal standing, and I am grateful for that.

Wisely, I don't LLC talks a lot about what they're doing on legal fronts. Politicians don't like it too much when the limelight gets thrown their way in a negative way. From my experience, Segway's policy is to educate governments on the characteristics of self-balancing technology, not to make some big public showing.

There are many others fighting the good fight as well. Again, I'll let Itsi fill you in on all that later tonight. Itsi? :)

That last chat was awesome.

Another chat would be great!

Maybe we could get Dean Kamen.
That would be cool.

Patience... the next chat and a tentative chat schedule for chats for the rest of the year will be posted within a week or so. April 14th looks like a good day for the next chat, so pencil it in. More details shortly...

That's great news and exactly what we are all waiting for.

And if a scedule for the remainder of the year is posted, even better. This is what we are all asking for, a dialogue with Segway and if we have enough advance notice, even better.

Sorry to be nitpicky, but don't you mean "from all public and private property"?

(It's just me, I find errors really quickly.)

Ben, you're right. Public and private property :) Sorry, I have been so busy lately that I've been lucky to eat once or twice a day--and that seriously affects my draft writing abilities :)

Thanks for picking up on that! I'll edit the original message now.
