View Full Version : Swapping in one charged battery?

Given a Segway down to one flashing bar, does anybody know what the effect of replacing *just one* battery with a full charged one would be?

Just curious!

Cheers

Ron

After swapping out one battery, you should get roughly one flashing bar :) Unless the one that's left was doing better.

The battery reading on the HT is of the _weakest_ of the two batteries, more or less.

P.S.

I think that you're going to need to change your tagline to "I'm one in 500,000" or something as time goes on. 6,000 Segway owners was 7 months ago :)

Yeah, I know! But he world's population must have gone up a bit too!

Thanks for the info on the battery too, somehow I missed that it works like that!

Cheers

I was recently told by my dealer (TX) that toy should always change the batteries in pairs and never split them up.

1) I also believe and recommend swapping both batteries at the same time.
2) I believe that the reading of bars is based on the lower battery
3) I believe that swapping a single battery would result in increased range (over not swapping any), since I believe that the HT will consume more from the higher capacity battery. I could be wrong; the LLC engineers should know. Assuming a complete single battery failure, it is my understanding that both wheels will still be powered (that redundancy we were sold on).

I have tried it before. I used my Segway until both batteries were almost drained. Then changed one battery, and started the Segway, and saw only one steady bar. I then changed the second battery and had a full charge on the indicator. I changed the front battery first, so I guess to conclude the experiment one would also have to put the good battery in the rear position.

Dave,

Did you try riding your HT after the swap? My guess is that the machine would let you go a little ways, and your voltage bars would drop rapidly and/or your machine would go into the "low battery warning" mode and then emergency shutdown.

You have me curious now. I do trust that the redundant systems will keep me safe, but then again it's never good to try to break the redundant systems (unless you're an engineering tester) :)

Can you keep the segway on ( in power assist mode) and swap out one battery?
