View Full Version : SEG America... parochial?

Why only America? We need a global approach and a global support group!

Don't forget that we overseas guys are doing the ground breaking work in several countries, by testing and exploring legislation and displaying and demonstrating the Segway both to the public and the media.

Also, we're even lonelier than you guys, if I want to glide with somebody else it's a 250 or 500 mile drive!

But thanks for letting us join anyway! It's a shame we're not eligible to win the Segway, makes me feel a bit like a second class citizen :(

Cheers

Ron

There are a little over six thousand Segway owners!
There are a little over six billion people in the world!
I'm one in a million! :)

Ron,

Please don't feel like a second class citizen. In fact, being one of only maybe 4 segways on an entire continent is an honor and a dubious distinction and a great responsibility.

How about Seg-American Colonies? (I'm kidding)

I hope Segway owners abroad don't feel left out, as I am sure it must appear that way.

We're all a family here, no matter where you happen to be.

In fact, from what you Aussies have gone through to just get your Segway imported deserves something.

But I am merely a member and not in charge.

It's just us arogant Americans imposing our way of life on the rest of the world. Please ignore it, despite how much it offends.

Cheers,

Andrew Crow

You own a Segway, now buy a Macintosh.

Ron,

I feel for you man, I really do. It's always hard being restricted from an organization because of some geographical boundary, especially since you seem to be working so hard to make sure people think fondly of Segway HTs down under.

We'd love to have you hang out with us at SEG America for now of course. You're a great member of our community.

As soon as Segway-enabling laws are passed in Australia (if they're even needed), I'm guessing that Segway will start selling to consumers there. Which means that the SEG committee will need to get a SEG Australia (or is that SEG Down Under?) started :)

Which means you'll potentially have Segway buddies right there in Canberra!

I think SEGAmerica is just the natural course. Segways are for sale in the US, so this is where the club is. Feel free to start SEG Australia.

What about SEG International? Is there some reason we have to restrict it to America? Or can we set up a SEG International in addition to SEG America? We need to come up with something to make our Non-Americans feel welcome!

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I feel plenty welcome here! No worry there, it's just that I guess I'm a bit envious, heck, starting a SEG Australia seems a bit pointless, there's only four of us, five if you count an "absentee" member in currently in China. We can (and do) just email one another, and piggy back on your boards.

Cheers

Segway International sounds great, with equal but separate geographic divison. The Segway's technology is to be shared and enjoyed by the world and so is membership. The improved quality of life thru Segway technology is for the entire world along with international cooperation and the equal participation in any support organization.

For those of you who are concerned that SEG America is going to be the only national SEG organization, please remember and bear in mind that this is ONLY a starting point. This is just the beginning... over time, there WILL be more national SEG organizations. Getting the first one off the ground and getting it "right" will lead the way to helping other countries start up their own operations. Let's get this first one off the ground and get everything ironed out and you have my word that it'll be ten times easier to start them up in other countries. Once we get the procedure down well, you know we will support you in any way possible.

SEG America is in no way intended to come across as being either arrogant in its design, nor does SEG America intend to insult you. We certainly hear you loud and clear on that note. Wouldn't it be much easier if we could get the entire startup organization working properly here and then help other countries to do the same?

Perhaps the greatest reason SEG America is the first organization of its type is due to much larger concentrations of Segway HT's in America at this point. It's a logical first step... Segway is just now starting to set their sights on distribution channels overseas (as you can evidence for yourself on these very boards!). Believe me, this is not an ignorant nor a arrogant organization. I can sympathize with you, I really do, but this is a lot like planting a garden. You have to sow the seeds and nurture the young sprout before the flower can bloom. Once it blooms, then you'll begin to see the implementation of SEG groups elsewhere. Know that we hear you, loud and clear... the time is coming soon, but you may just have to be patient. Things like this take time to grow, especially as Segway increases its overseas distribution network!
