To introduce our communities to the Segway HT, and to kick off the official nationwide launch of SEG America, the organizing committee (in conjunction with the ten existing local SEGs) has announced the following schedule:
Tuesday, March 30 2004 (evening):
SEG America Community Events
We want to launch SEG America by showing our neighbors that we, as Segway HT owners, are good community members. Press releases will be flying this morning, and this evening local SEG groups will be participating in some kind of community involvement to kick things off.
The recommended activity for the evening is "meals on wheels." Yes, you read that right :) While local SEG groups may choose to do other community service-type activities (highway litter pickup on Segway HTs has been mentioned too, among others), the national media contacts (Robert O'Sullivan and I) will be talking about how local SEG groups from all over the country are involved in their communities on this day, most of them doing "meals on wheels."
If your group chooses to do this activity, and most group leaders have already expressed such in the affirmative, this means that local groups will either be volunteering for an hour or two in some type of "soup kitchen" (on HTs, or with HTs parked inside) or delivering meals via HTs from such places to community members in need (the elderly, the poor, etc.)
Saturday, April 3 2004:
SEG America "Community Invitation" and Glide Day
Since the media will be hearing about SEG America and your local SEG group on Tuesday, we will be inviting them, and all other interested community members, out for demo rides on this day. The time period can be as long or as short as the local group and members would like it to be.
Also, you may want to hold this activity from, say, 10am to noon, so that you have time to recharge for a group glide Saturday evening. This is your big "celebration" day.

All SEG activities are, of course, optional. For the launch activities, we encourage all of you to see if you can fit them into your schedule.
We really want to show the world that Segway HT owners really do want to make the world a better place, and this is one big way to show it and to get some new Segway buddies at the same time.
Also, if you are a member of a local SEG which we did not know about, please let us know. We didn't mean to miss you!
