y = ax(2) + bx + c

yep....

That is the hint about this years competition, according to Woodie Flowers. He also says that there will be major changes not only to the game, but also to the kit. hmmmm.... He was quoted saying that there will be at least 2 major gasps and groans throughout the game presentation.

So, what do you get when you mix polynomials, change, and kinky engineering? You get FIRST!!!

Any thoughts on this?

My major thought on the hint has to be something with projectiles. It seems to make some sense since it is a parabola, and it could be shooting something like a basket ball into a hoop, or maybe footballs... Other than that, the only other thing I could really think of would be maybe a type of half pipe as part of the field.

Hmm....Projectiles would make sense. In last years kit, they gave us those optical sensors and showed us how to set them up to track something with retro-refelctive material. Maybe we will have to build something to automatically track and launch soccer balls into a goal (the only reason that I am saying soccer balls is because they have a lot left over from last years game).

Not like this will matter much this close to the kickoff, but going through the shipping and drayage document, I noticed it said only 1 student and 1 mentor, so either this game is going to no require much movement, or gadgets to manipulate the game. Or, the driver is going to have to do a lot on his own. Either way, just a thing I noticed.

1 student and 1 mentor for what? For driving during competition?

Yeah, for driving/behind the glass.

FIRST claims there will be major changes to the game. Don't you think that they will try to stay away from the same old " ball & basket" game I don't think that it would be much of a drastic change if the game is that way. ALso if you remember back in October there was a message posted on the FIRST site about the free parts in the dumpster at the FIRST headquarters. Which probally means they were getting rid of the old parts for a completly new 2003 kit.
