View Full Version : Car headaches -- experiences

Some of you might know that I sold my Audi TT a few months after getting my Segway HT. It ended up in the shop about one day a week (on average), and I only needed to drive it a few times a month anyway. I figured it was much cheaper just to rent/borrow a car when I needed one. And of course, I've saved enough money since last September to almost buy an HT.

Anyway, I have a lot of moments in my life now where I'm riding around on my HT, or even in a car, and I see someone broken down and all the trouble they're having with their multiple-ton vehicle. What experiences have all of you had? I think this might be an interesting phenomenon.

1. A few days or so ago, a guy was slowly pushing his car across the intersection and _trying_ to make it up a driveway to the gas station. (I'm not a jerk -- I helped him out; lucky I was on my HT and not a passing car)

2. Today, there was a car stuck in the drivethrough at an Arby's restaraunt. Apparently, the car was running but the automatic gear shift wouldn't do anything, including kick into neutral -- and pressing on the gas just revved the engine. It was bizarre. We all couldn't push it, and apparently a tow truck was going to have to drag it away on another set of wheels.

3. Well, this goes without saying, but passing the gas station is always a fun experience :) I just plug in my HT at night, and my energy cost is only about 4 cents a day. $2.00 a gallon for gas--my word!

Chris,

I feel your pain with the $2.00 a gallon prices. In Atlanta, the average is about $1.50 right now. Plus, we have a hybrid, which seriously helps.

I think for some people's uses, a car makes no sense at all. I think that the $2.00 a gallon is crazy. The benefits of having a HT overwelm the losses!

Where can I find this $2.00/gallon bargain? Last fill was $2.54 in rainy San Diego.

As far as pushing, I've pushed my Segway more than I've pushed my car(never).

If you ever forget your 5mm wrench and get the "Beep - I Ignore You" key response, you'll wish AAA serviced HT's.

Ground Loop,

I have roadside assistance for my HT. It's $1 a month through Progressive Insurance :)

You have a good point about pushing. With my new i-series, I have only had to push it twice in two months.

Once was in an "icefall" (ice was falling from the sky disguised as snow -- it hurts if you don't have a mask on), when I decided to push my HT down a curbcut, across the street, and up a semi-steep hill. The HT keeps me from slipping on slick hills (my feet slip, but I hold onto the HT).

The other time was when my battery died a hundred feet or so from home. That was range testing.

I have never had a "beep no start" issue with my new HT. I think the problem may very well be nailed now. My old p-series had the beep-no-start issue, and I got a quick release to take care of that.

All this said, it's way easier to push an HT a few blocks home than to push a car home, or to the service station, or wherever.

$1 a month. Progressive Insurance.

I generally only drive my car on the weekends now. When gliding into my apartment building this evening, I looked over at my car and took delight in the fact that I have not driven it since last week. I take particular delight because I have always been so dependant on a car for most of my life due to a disability. HT = freedom.

Haven't owned a car for 11 years. Miss it sometimes, on those cold rainy days when the only thing thats dry are soles of my shoes.

Well, everytime I see people stuck in traffic I smile.

And I know they hate me for gliding by effortlessly and without stress!

And worse for everyone else that gets their goods and services throught transportation and shipping that relies on oil. I think that is everyone so that means you too, bud.

Hey wait a second. I thought this Iraq war was about oil. Shouldn't we paying about $.35 a gallon now that we have taken over all the Iraqi oil fields? I guess Halliburton is getting all of that extra cash so they can look for oil on Mars.

You like paying more for goods and services? How odd.

Yeah, all he did was switch government funded research from the Clitton program oil research to hydrogen research. Get your facts straight. Clinton had no energy policy for the entire eight years of his administration.

Maybe you should live closer to where you work so you could walk or ride a Segway and quit causing global warming.

Sorry for the pointed response. Can't let lies rest.
