Okay, I stopped by Pep Boys today to check out that Q scooter from Rad2Go which they tried to make look something like a Segway HT.

I hear imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. You know you've made it big in culture when people start making things in your likeness.

Anyway, there was 1 Q in the whole store, which arrived yesterday. And it was still in its box. The lady running the front of the store said she didn't know if they were going to open it up so people could see it, and she wasn't sure when they might be getting any more in.

I had to write down the warning on the side of the box, which appears in big letters with the same "Chinese-made look-alike," ahem, inferior qualities in its punctuation.

YOUR INSURANCE POLICIES MAY NOT PROVIDE COVERAGE
FOR ACCIDENTS INVOLVING THE USE OF THIS SCOOTER. TO
DETERMINE IF COVERAGE IS PROVIDED. YOU SHOULD
CONTACT YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY OR AGENT

It cracked me up.

You need to read the Seg label.

"RISK OF DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY FROM FALLS AND COLLISIONS".

Now that one is funny to me. Anyone that does not know that from a fall you could get killed or hurt has a problem.

With all the sue happy people in the world you can't blame companies for putting stupid labels on their products.

Wayne,

You're right. The Segway label is extremely humorous, not in the least because of the awesome cartoon of the guy flying off his Segway when he hits a bump, etc. :)

However, the Segway sticker is stuck down at the bottom and gives more of a "be careful when you ride, just in case" impression than the Q warning which seems to say "do not ride this thing until you find out which insurance, if any, will cover you when you inevitably injure yourself, someone else, or property."

That's why it cracked me up. It's like they think wrecks are a big enough and common enough deal for their scooter. The Segway warns against rider injury due to negligence, the Q against any conceivable damage (probably medical and property) due to riding.

Plus, one has to figure out if insurance will pay to fix the Q when one gets in his first Q accident.

:)

BTW, I think it would be funny to do a video with a newborn baby. The baby would have a mandatory sticker on its leg which would read, as Wayne said:

"RISK OF DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY FROM FALLS AND COLLISIONS"

You could even have a cute cartoon of a baby falling off a high-chair or something.

Seriously, that's about how bad our litagous society is getting these days.

Chris,

Don't give the Insurance Co. any new ideas or it will come true.

I always thought that it is a double edge sword to put a sticker on your product explaining how dangerous it could be to use the product. Seems like an ambulance chaser would later come along after a mishap like a stubbed toe or the mental anguish that would follow the stubbed toe and ask the question " How could you be so irresponsible to allow such a dangerous product to be availble to cause this massive bodily harm to my poor client? " ( would not be a 'poor' client after that slimeball is finished ).

You give anything to the wrong person, and they could hurt themselves with it.
That's the reality.
