I've been having a major problem with my HT; the face on the display keeps switching from a happy face to a straight face, and speed limiter kicks in. This is when I am going slow, on red key. Sometimes, I ignore it, and a safety shutdown kicks in- (Beeps, red face, when you gt off it shuts down) any idea why, or what I should do?

Sounds like a battery problem.
Try draining the batteries down and charging back up. If this does not help then you may have a battery that is going bad.

Yeah, thats the other thing I forgot to mention-- the batteries are at 3 1\2, and the Segway hasnt ridden more than 15 miles since it was recieved in April 02...always in the garage... maybe some wires in the CS?

You can't always trust the battery gauge.
On my P series when I 1st. got it I had the same problem. Three bars and would shut down. I got new batteries and it helped a lot. (Didn't fix all the problem I was having)
So I still think it is the battery.
Is there is someone you could swap batteries with to see if that is the problem?

Nope, I don't know any other Segway owners, and what is odd is, this problem hadn't ocured until last week, when someone from Segway FINALLY came to update our Segway!

That could be the problem right there.
12.0 software has problems. You will not get LLC to agree but there are too many stories going around of the way the 12.0 performs.
I have 10.0 on my I and 12.0 on my P and I can tell you the 12.0 sucks.

Wayne

Oh, one thing that is different:
On my I when you get on, it will fly.
On the P after about 10 minutes it seems to do better.
Just like an old model T Ford, takes a while to warm up and go.
That is the 12.0 software.

Hmm...as they say, common sense is not common?

Why am I always one of many people who recommends calling 1-866-4-SEGWAY, where the actual tech folks can usually diagnose, or better yet, fix the problem! Lmao. Good luck mon.

X-man,
Edit: April 03 (sorry about that...) I was typing pretty fast. Also, It was not plugged in the whole time. Just when I was going to go out and use it. Now there is a car in the garage, and the outlet is blocked.

April 02? Those batteries are two years old. If they haven't been cycled regularly, they're probably shot. I have a whole box of model car/airplane/helicopter batteries that went just a bit too long without use. Now they're toxic doorstops. Specifically, the symptom you describe sounds like it.. they charge, read high (good voltage level), but then when you try to suck some current out of them, they can't provide it. You might try a full discharge (leaning the HT in balance mode against a wall) to cycle them a couple times, but I wouldn't keep hopes up.

Forget the charge light and kickstand, the batteries are still the weakest link in the Segway design and the most expensive to repair!

That said, if you want to sell your dead packs (after being sure they're to blame), shoot me a note. I'm looking for some old packs to hack open.

Is it possible they were pretty much dead when you got the 12.0 upgrade? Dusting off the old HT, getting a firmware upgrade, then charging it up and finding out the cells are weak?

Ground loop, that could be true, but I got about three or four good rides out of them (35 Min LONG RED KEY RIDES) before this problem began. Also, note that the edit says the batteries are from April 03. I'll post if anything else happens with those batteries. I can't even charge until I get my dad to move that car.

I think the problem might be the temp.... see if it continues after 15 minutes of slow gliding...

If your machine sat a long time without being plugged in then the batteries could be damaged. Segway recommends keeping it plugged in when not in use. Cycling them several times may help.
