We need any hard data on the safety issue of motorized scooters. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reported 4,390 emergency room treated injuries associated with motorized scooters. Does anyone know report Segway injuries. Does anyone have experience in providing facts to separate the Segway from the scooter. (other than the tech specs)
Any help would be appreciated, itsi segwaynyny@aol.com

Itsi, just read some of the state laws. There are some very clear distinctions between EPAMDs and scooters.

Itsi,
Do you need safety info on motorized scooters, or on Segways as well? There's not any published hard data out there yet that I know of, even fromt he independent studies.
As for motorized scooters, I'm sure we can find out more data for you somewhere.

Itsi -
Looks like the number may be higher than what you reported: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/5026.pdf. Man, those scooters seem dangerous!
More than likely, a Seg accident would be referred to as a scooter accident by an ER. I'm not sure of a dr/nurse would really spell out the difference between a scooter and seg, so it's possible that the numbers you find for scooters are inclusive of Segway accidents.

http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/5026.pdf. And take off the last dot. That's the dot for "savings"
correct url: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/5026.pdf
you really should use some hyperlink checking, vb. Your misspelling and poor typing make it difficult at time to click to the content of your message. ;) :)

"We need any hard data on the safety issue of motorized scooters."
Iv'e got hard data-
In the months after the initial deposit of my Segway and the actual delivery after final payment (dissolution in the interim), I was forced by desire to ride my skateboard everywhere I went within a ten mile (5 there / 5 back) trip.
During the months to follow I fell (mostly on things that I now fall by hitting on my Segway HT i-167 with 12.0 softwear), and had the following injuries.
1. Face plant - Lacerations to the right side of my face, left hand, left elbow ~~TX cold compress to affected area wash, clean, keep dry and smile.~- Cause~ Obstruction of path over three inches high, small garden fence.
~Never face planted on my Segway.~
2. Full filp ~ Ya heals over head - Abrasions to proximal frontal palms TX - wash hands~- Cause~ Descending into an intersection with derogation of tar to cement transition speed, > 8mph ~ full stop of skateboard (wearing full, soft backpack) rolled into the street at the center line.
~Never Flipped on my Segway~
3. Skateboard flue into the street and went under a car tire. ~ No injury to skateboard or rider.
~Segway never got away ~ just hold the handle.~
4. Car pulling into driveway at a **** undisclosed car dealership, lot full, stops on sidewalk, NO BRAKES, leaned left to turn, fell and rolled (distance 7 feet from obstruction, speed +-10mph). Skateboard rolled under truck and stopped in gutter next to a parked car. One roll Right to left, No injury, Smiled and walked away. Heavy traffic in the street (school was getting out).
~I just give the right of way now on my Segway~
5. By the way I still have that skateboard.

Find the way. Everything comes full circle.

Stats take time and numbers.. so far we have neither. 6000 units, only some of them rolling around in public for about a year.. that's not a lot to go by.
If people have been diligent in reporting injury accidents to Segway LLC, they may have some factual information. Anyone want to ask? :)
There are more people riding horses, skateboards, unicycles, and probably Big-Wheels to gather stats from.
