View Full Version : Anybody peel off their warning sticker on the CSB?

At my one-year anniversary of owning this great machine, I'm seriously considering peeling off the ugly "Warning" sticker on the Control Shaft Base. I'm not ever planning on selling my i-Series machine, and I'm pretty sure my warranty is up. I understand why the sticker was placed there, but I really think it detracts from the machine's "purity" of design.
Anyone have any success removing it? How'd you do it? Hair dryer and solvent? Rubbing alcohol or a little naptha (or acetone) should do the trick. Then again, I don't want to compromise the finish. Just curious. Maybe "Goo-Gone?" Thanks.

Mine was missing on one, only the sticky remains left behind. Peel it by fingertip, then use Goo-Gone or Oops or Orange Sol or the like to get rid of the sticky mess. DONT use a solvent like acetone, or you'll pull paint and more. It comes off fine with a little elbow grease and any standard cleanser and an old cotton rag.
I like the warning sticker, sometime passers by begin to read it and hesitate touching the beast.
What I would like is a long yellow sticker that I can slap on my control shaft that says "EXPERIMENTAL"
I really want that.

I peeled mine off REALLY slowly. Left a littel residue, but the ol' use-the-sticker-to-remove-the-stickiness trick worked.
I've never had a problem with GOO GONE. I'd trust it on the CS.

I peeled mine off about 4 or 5 months ago. when our bay area seg group got together last, I noticed most everyone else had done the same. Like you broo, I don't plan on selling my Segs, and it looks much cleaner without it. As a joke, I stuck the sticker to a leg of one of my barstools,`"warning you may fall off", risk of injury, etc.. Seemed like a good place for it ;)

Hey Broo,
I peeled mine off after about a month. I just cleaned up the residue with isopropyl alcohol and a paper towel. It didn't hurt the surface finish at all. Just don't get it on any rubber surfaces.
I keep my sticker on the plastic zip-loc bag that my safety video came in, just in case I need it for some strange reason.

Segway LLC has those (red or black, I think), and used them on the p-Series when it was in development. Maybe you can sweet talk the engineers into sending you one? Or, you may be able to get one from one of the aviation supply houses.

Removing that sticker was the FIRST thing I did after assembling my machines. I looked and didn't see the " Do not remove under penalty of law ".... hehe. When the machine is new they peel off as easy as can be....no residue.

I was never nuch of a sweet talker, but I'll call and try... As far as aviation houses, do you mean aircraft supply, or hobby stores?

Aircraft supply. The "EXPERIMENTAL" designation is used on homebuilt (non-FAA type certificate) airplanes, and is typically mounted just below the cockpit on both sides of the fuselage. Of course most experimental planes have it actually painted on, but high-quality stickers may be available. Try calling Sporty's Pilot Shop ... they'll point you in the right direction if such a thing exists.

I had a good look at the CSB when I was over in one of the labs at Illinois Institute of Technology, and they had a Seg completely disassembled. It's a very substantial piece of aluminum. If I recall correctly, it's made in Italy. Kinda cool ... I didn't realize we had an Italian component on our machines.

I took the stickers off my p soon after it arrived, mainly because one was on crooked and just looked bad. They peeled off with no trouble.

Well, both stickers came off with no problem at all, and left virtually no residue. As Sleepy suggested, I just followed up with a little rubbing alcohol and a paper towel, and stuck the stickers on my heavy plastic ziplock bag. Looks MUCH better already! Thanks guys!
