Our first Take a Segway To School function went GREAT! During their Invention Convention we allowed the 6th graders to briefly step on the Segway, learn to relax, glide 10' forward & back, and do a slow 360 degree turn. We had probably 100+ kids try the machines and they all loved the new technology. They asked a lot of intelligent questions. This really got their minds stimulated in a very fun way. The science teachers said that this event would be the talk of the school tomorrow morning.
Again, I would like to challenge ALL SegwayChat members to give a very small amount of your time and arrange with you local school to bring in your HT and let's show kids that science can be a blast!
My wife and I had already put in a 12 hour day and we were exausted. But the experience and the thank you's from the kids, was well worth the small amount of time.
Please, Take a Segway to School...
Thanks everyone,
Tom Jacobson

I work for a rehabilitation hospital and have used our Segway in helmet education with 4th graders. The children could not ride at that age, but they went nuts when we put their teachers on the machine.
Have also demonstrated to grades pre-K through 5th. Always a big hit.
My Ex (a 4th grade teacher) used to hold invention conventions, and I helped out with that... Unfortunately, last year at that time I didn't have my Segway, but after I got it, I felt that it would be a wonderful demonstration of how creative thinking can achieve a solution for human problems.
I totally agree.
I am wondering where I go from here. Having moved to a new city... who do I contact?

Actually the school contacted me. I think that if you contact the principal at your local school and told them what you would be willing to do, that they would jump at the opportunity to have a segway to demonstrate at their school. I think it's that simple.

Contact Mary Louise Scheid, community and media relations, 317-226-4649, and/or: Willie Giles, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, 317-226-4545 . They will be able to point you towards a local school.
The Central Indiana Regional Science and Engineering Fair is to be held March 18, 19, and 20, 2004 at Nicoson Hall, on the campus of the University of Indianapolis, so now is the time to act!
Thanks for taking the time and making the effort!
Thanks for the information. I'll certainly contact those folks.

I have brought my segway into schools before. The kids have liked it a lot but their first impression is that it's a rich man's toy. I was unable to change that view.
