I hope that's for more than Segway HT insurance.
They quoted me $75/yr for liability, $150/yr for full coverage.
Heck, even my motorcycle (also Progressive) only costs about $160/yr.
Ted Kennedy, is that you??
mine was $150.
bill, i think they charge more if you dance with yours :-]
cheers,

Segway only :( This is not basic, it covers up to $300,000. Basic coverage is around $800. The priced is determined by your zip code.
Mine is the first policy written in Manhattan. I'd hoped the price would drop with my good driving history.

They don't care how you use it, as long as you don't make a claim or use it for hire, rentals are not covered!!! My wife and I, plus guests are covered.
If you are interested go to Proggresives web site and put my zip code in (10028) see what pops up!

Bill,
Ouch. I'm glad that's not a typical rate. How much is auto insurance in Manhattan? Yowee.
I priced out anti-theft, road-side assistance, medical, and half a million in liability for my zipcode. It's like half as much here for twice as much coverage.

I priced it for the Bronx, N.Y., and it was over $800.00 and pretty much basic.
Needless to say I don't have any insurance at this time.
Funny thing is, that is more than I pay for my Harley or BMW motorcycles, and I have a lot more coverage on my bikes than I would have for the quoted $800.00 for my Segway.
I think Progressive has found a cash cow and will milk it for as much as they can until other insurance companies are willing to jump into the Segway arena.
Hope it goes down soon.

Mine's $90 a year for State Farm. Progressive quoted me a number that was more in line with automobile insurance than a Segway.
Progressive STILL seems to think they're insuring a deathtrap, rather than something slower and less damaging in a collision than a bicycle.

Decided to get insurance in case some one on a demo goes berserk! Progressive charged $75 for the year. Has any one ever filed a claim?

At least you guys can get insurance! :(
None at all available here, at any price! But it's great fun trying to explain what a Segway is!
Mind you, at that price I don't think I'd be bothering!
Cheers

I got my insurance from State Farm for $150 a year including comprehensive coverage (fire, theft, etc). Better than 300 from progressive, not including comprehensive coverage. I suppose it depends on where you are to find the best price.

Commercial insurance for segway rental/tours can run over $20,000.00 per year, that's if you're lucky enough to even find a commercial insurer.

Just received my insurance renewal notice from Progressive. My rate seems to have decreased from $104.00 for the prior year to $89.00....(but I wont complain to them about it). Here's my coverage so you all can compare:
Bodily injury Liability 100k each person , maximum 300k each accident.
Property damage Liability 50k each accident.
Comprehensive and Collision 250.00 deductible.
Custom parts or Equipment 1000.00 included with Comp or collision ( I guess "custom parts and equipment" would cover the 12.0 bag...GPS...etc ) I'm very pleased with the price of this policy and it's a comfort to have this in case of a mishap.

Bill,
My Progressive is $150 total broken down as follows:
1 - for liability (cost $30) $250,000 each person/$500,000 each accident/property damage is $100,000
2 - there is a $100 deductible for Comprehensive (cost $90)
3 - a $250 deductible for collission (cost $30)
4 - custom parts (Wayne & Zorba) are insured for $1,000 free of charge.
I rejected Uninsured Motorist coverage. If I am hit by a car, if the car is insured, I collect from them, if they aren't insured, my medical expenses are paid by my health insurance and I have no recovery for pain & suffering.
Inquire if you can change the quote to you being the sole glider excluding your wife. See if it makes a significant difference.
Also, because you don't have auto insurance and have no insurance history that probably puts you in the worst risk pool.

It is the zip code that gets you!
