I was biting my nails all throughout school today, hoping that UPS would go by my house during the day and give my Dad the big box containing the Segway I had been waiting for. After the bell rung, I met up with my friend Matt who told me that he heard my Dad (who was guest lecturing his photography class) say that he had the Segway, so we walked out to the car, where my dad was standing with a big brown and blue Segway box in the back. Matt and I pulled the box out, opened it up, and I started assembling the Segway while others looked on. It was packaged with the Moutaineer tires on already, so I was ready to tackle the muddy field. I ran around for a while (yes, I wore a helmet! [first time with a helmet on a Segway]), then switched over to the enhanced traction tires he sent along, as well. I went up to the other campus across the street where the little kids were having day care and segged around the playfield, had kids chase me, and in general just showed them this piece of technology they hadn't seen before. Then I went back to where my dad was watching our new gym being constructed, let him ride around a bit and then packed up and went home.
Got home, washed the Segway off. Then I went through all the little accessories and documentation Zorba sent along with it. Watched the Segway video for the first time, learned nothing I didn't already know from experience, plugged in this huge million candle power light (its bright, like as bright as a million candles!), stuck batteries in another light he sent along and looked at the kryptonite lock. I also took the Segway and kryptonite keys and put them on a my Segway Fest lanyard so I'd not lose them. And now I'm here.
I plan to post my experiences with the M Series every day. So check back tomorrow!

Neelix, I bet you're gonna have the same problem that I have with my HT... instead of getting sick of it from riding too much, I somehow seem to like it more. Good luck with it buddy!

I just went out for a night glide around my neighborhood. Suffice to say, it was a blast.

Got some pictures in my Bay Area SEG photoalbum. All future photos will be posted here:
Hey Mods, tried to stick a link here, copied and pasted
http:// photos. groups. yahoo. com / group / bayareaseg / lst?&.dir= / Chris_Knight&.src=gr&.view=t
Spaces inserted to show real link. It kept showing "photos.www.google.com/etc" for some reason. I would edit and it would do the same thing. Whats up with this?

Hey Chris! Glad you received the M Series in one piece. Remember to stay off the pavement as much as you can when you have the Mountaineers on. A rubber mallet tap or 2 on the edge of the exposed tire will help you "dislodge" the wheel off the axel when changing wheels regularily. Did you notice that not very much pressure is applied to achieve the right torque (35 ft/lbs american --- ?? fig-newtons) You'll soon learn this and not have to read the meter on your torque wrench anymore. a lb or 2 either direction is not going to hurt a thing and the wheel WON"T fall off if you only have 30 ft/lbs. However you could strip a thread (probably only in the lug-nut) if you tightened it down way-to-much (like 50-60 ft/lbs).
Above all else, take it slow and easy when on the Mountaineers. You are a relatively in-experienced glider right now and off-roading safely, at speed, requires a certain degree of Seg proficientcy that you will aquire very soon thru gliding every day. Have fun my friend, just be yourself with TechTV when they come and post us some pictures. Good Luck!

Neelix, I am so happ that you have the M-i167. Im going to be doing Betas on the gladiators and Zobra was going to give me call later in the month to see how they work. After you get your fill of the off road tires email me and we will do a switch with Brunos!!!

Hey Gotseg,JR, Zoli, and Mr.L! You are right, Neelix couldn't be a better promoter of Segways. He is a bright and industrious young man who is going to go far with his life! The M model he is Beta testing for me is my "basic" M we are converting from new 12.0 I models. It comes with 2 sets of tires. An off-road set of Mountaineers or Gladiators (I am currently testing a 3rd tire the "Iceman" an exceptional snow and ice tire that I will offer for sale soon) and the original factory tires(Neelix has Mountaineers and a set of extra-traction tire w/o studs). Our basic M-167C also comes with your choice of camouflage, we cycle the batteries and total package price is $1K over new I model price. Purchaser pays us $250 deposit thru Paypal, Orders thru us to LLC, pays LLC who will maintain the warranty even when the Segway is used off-road. LLC ships us the I model which we convert and send to customer. All extra gear on the M-167C are accessories which can be installed during conversion or bought as aftermarket products. On Neelix's M model I've installed the skidplate/trailer hitch accessory which is very neccesary in off-road Segging to protect the batteries from rock strikes. He has the Realtree(TM) Max4 camouflage on that machine(a yellow and brown "fall" grass pattern)and 2 different lights.A small strap-on headlight and our spotlight that either mounts on the baggage bar or as in Neelix's case uses the shoulder strap that comes with it. Its a great headlight for Segging in the deep-woods in the dark of night -- many pitfalls out there which makes off-road Segging so much fun. Honestly, you haven't begun to enjoy gliding until you really start to do some serious off-roading out in Mother nature!

Fantastic, you guys!
What a great project!
Neelix, remember my advice to all new gliders:
Work your way up on those keys. Any slight bobble turn mistakes (wrong way leans, whatever) and you demote yourself to slower speeds for more practice for a few hours before you let youself speed up again.
It's a good way to do it. A bobble means you need to go slower awhile before you "earn" the right to speed up. Now I never make those mistakes, and I didn't wind up on the ground from a bad turn!

Bruce, thanks for the advice, but I'm already at red key skill! I've had a lot of Seg experience before this, so I can handle it.
Day 2 blog entry is coming in a couple of minutes.

It's funny... I know you're suppota start with black and work your way up to red... but I never did. I stayed slow on the red until I felt I could go faster safely. I think the main reason I did this was so I'd get used to one steering sensitivity and not have to relearn with every key.
