Today I took my old-time radio I found (from the old Segway Scavenging thread) into the old-time radio shop, where they're going to restore it for me. The owner and I had the following exchange:

"Hey, you're the one with that scooter thing. Did they come and confiscate it?"

"What?!!? No! I still have it."

"No, no, they banned those things. They're illegal. People were falling off. People were getting killed, they killed a couple of people at least."

"What!??! No they didn't"

"Yes they did, I saw it on the news."

"A couple of people fell off, they just upgraded the software so that won't happen. It's just a five-minute software upgrade. I know the person online who fell off, he just required stitches. HONESTLY, he didn't die."

"Oh...."

The guy goes back to fixing a radio.

This guy was CONVINCED that I had a deadly scooter. And he was also convinced that Segways were pulled off the market forcibly.

I'm not sure how you counter THAT perception. Maybe you don't. Some people will never get the idea no matter what.

But I wonder how many people have the impression that Segways are not available anymore.

Not only that, Bruce, but I've met quite a few people that didn't know they were even released to the public.

People will believe what ever the news media tells them, and then reinterpret it to what they want to believe.

Just watch, it is after all, an election year!

i think we need to launch a new PR strike and educate the people about exactly what a segway is...
what happened to the Ticket to ride events?

DES: Segway owner....
it has a nice ring to it

1) I always wonder wtf goes through a person's mind when they think to step onto something they have a) never seen before, b) does not belong to them or anyone they know, and c) they have no idea how the HELL it works...

Crackheads.

2) Usually they feel the pre-emptive thwack before the HT falls on em.
