Aloha everyone, this is The Brooster. <grin>
I'm starting this thread on behalf of our fellow Segway HT owners on the Hawaiian Islands ... our 50th State.
I'd like to start a group of Hawaii Segway owners--and friends of Hawaii Segway owners--within SegwayChat, to represent the community and serve as a resource for all kinds of good stuff in the Hawaiian Islands.
If you live on the Hawaiian Islands, please post! If you live in Buffalo, NY and love Hawaii and the Segway, please post!
Let's make this thread the beginnings of a group of loyal Seg enthusiasts who love Hawaii and might want to get together there someday.

I live in San Diego but plan to take my Segway with me to Kauai on vacation next August. I have MS and use the seg as my mobility device, so I plan to gate check it. I hope it will come in handy getting from beach to beach on the south shore -- we'll see how well it does in the sand!

Aloha Brooster :-)
I just bumped into 3 more segway owners in Kona .. that brings the total of seggers in this small town to 6 (that I know of). Weather here has been great and I just moved to a new house close to town so I no longer need to put it in the truck.
A few weeks ago I was gliding along Ali'i drive and my cell phone rang, it was a rep from segway who was in Kona doing upgrades, as I was chatting on the phone with a segway rep (on my segway) another segway rider went by .. what are the odds of that !
Oh .. and here's another goodie ..

Aloha Brooster,
Thanks for starting this thread. I'm sure everyone will be able to take advantage of information posted here wheter they call the islands home or just love visiting and/or reading info on the 808 state. Let me extend an open invitation to anyone visiting Oahu. Look me up when you are here and I will show you lots of great places to glide. You can e-mail me through this site or mine. Also try AIM, you can message me at; alohasegway.
joebarnin, if it is well packed sand you will be fine just stay away from the loose and deep stuff, that will send you flying.
For anyone coming to Oahu, if you can't bring your glider with you there is a Segway LLC sanctioned rental operation available in Waikiki. They even have their own website now; http://www.segwayhi.com
These guys are really nice people, Sam(Konasegway) and I gave them their first demo glides before they started up.
Hopefully after the holidays we can have another informal gathering to try and get things started here for a Hawaii SEG. Even if it is just Jackie and I on Oahu for a glide, it's a start. We have a unique situation here where we can't put our segs in the car and drive to a meeting spot. It entails loading it on a plane and the expense of flying to another island. But we all love our new found freedom. I think the best idea is to set up a group on each island and then maybe a couple times a year a statewide gathering that we could rotate throughout the island chain in fairness to all island owners so that they can have a statewide gathering on their island as well.
Happy Holidays
Aloha,
Randy

Hi Sam,
You must have been posting about the same time as me that's amazing. I got a little, ok a lot, long winded as you can see. I'm glad Chris with Segway contacted you. Jackie and I were both talking about you to him when he was here on Oahu. Jackie got her upgrade before I did and when I went for mine he said she had mentioned both of us. I gave him your cell # and e-mail while he was here because for some reason he didn't have your contact info with him. I hope that was ok with you. That reminds me I need to fire off an e-mail to Chris to remind him to send us upgrade stickers, he didn't have any with him. It's great to see your post I've been lurking alot recently but haven't posted much. Is that Aloha State Segway Plate on your truck ? That is way cool. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Hope to see you again soon.
Aloha,
Randy

I wish I were in Hawaii right now. It's a "nice & warm" day today here in NH at 39 degrees. There's snow on the ground and the Segging ain't too hot... no pun intended. Anyway, wish I were there with all of you. Enjoy a little of that tropical weather for me, ok?

Great on getting an informal Hawaii Seg-group going. We go to the Waikiki area every year Jan/Feb. Have had the SEg over 6 months now and can't live without it! I am 82 and have around 1400 miles on it so far, but this COOLER weather is slowing me down a lot! I have been daydreaming of having the Seg there next trip....it will be a new experience and something I need badly there, as I cannot walk very far. I am especially interested in anyones experience taking the Seg between Seattle (Seatac) and Honolulu airports and the details. Just how it works out. I have been told by the local airline people I can "drive" it up to the ON ramp here (Walla Walla, WA) and they will load it and when I get to Honolulu it will be at the off ramp of the plane itself waiting for me. They said it will be considered the same as a personally owned wheel chair. Hard to believe. Any actual experiences along those lines. I will have my Handicapped Permit along.

Sam and Randy, good to hear from you guys, and Happy Holidays! Nice License plate Sam! Glad to hear there are some new owners in Kona. One of these days we'll definitely have to organize some sort of Segway gathering in Hawaii. The place is just too nice not to! Randy and Sam, I'm happy to report that I finally landed a job that I'm really enjoying. I'm working for www.realoldies1690.com. Give us a listen!

That's great news Brooster. Congrats and thanks for the link. Clear Channel Communications owns many radio and TV stations here in Hawaii,(future change of venue possibilities?, hahaha.) Radio is a cool format. My buddy and I in high school did a radio show at a local station once a week with content regarding our school. That is one of the things that gave me the bug to later work in television. Happy to hear you are enjoying it.

Mahalo Randy!
I hope you're enjoying our "fifties" station. Here's a link to a real Hawaiin Internet station, which is supported by member donations. This is where you'll find the real Hawaiian tunes. Enjoy!

Hello you lucky Segwayers living in a warm climate!
We've warmed up here to 30 degrees after a brutal few days, but, not surprisingly, I'm dreaming of warmer places! Right now I plan to be making my first visit ever to Hawaii--I should be on Oahu from March 31-April 4, then on a cruise until the 11th, then on the Big Island from April 11-15, and finally on Maui from April 15-19. Any posts you put up about traveling with a Segway, trails that are Segway-doable, etc. will be appreciated. [You can e-mail me directly with any travel advice that might not be of interest to the segwaychat group--I'm making my own travel arrangements so any advice on places to stay, cheap interisland flights, etc will make me happy.]
I have mobility issues (MS-related) and really rely on my Segway to get around. I haven't flown with it before but am thinking of checking it as baggage ( rather than gate-checking it) because i think I can package it so that it is less likely to get damaged (there'll be a few plane changes between Albany, NY and Honolulu). I've read a few posts on gate-checking the HT--but if anyone has additional experience or opinions to express on airline travel with Segways, that will be appreciated as well.
Mahalo!
