Not that I'm in a huge hurry but I called Segway in September after the recall announcement and gave them my name. the rep said I would be contacted within the month for the upgrade. I called 2 months later asking about the upgrade and they said it was taking longer than expected. I'm not at all concerned about the current usability of the Segway (I have an i) but am a little surprised that it's been more than 3 months with no contact out here in Denver. Any one else have similar stories?

I am not so sure that you want the upgrade. ever since I got it, my range has been shortened. I actually got a shut down the other evening much much sooner than it should have been. I wish I could go back to the old version....

There has been a delay for me in OKC. Segway called a few weeks ago and mentioned a delay probably until early next year.

Considering I am getting the slow down and neutral smile display on one small hill here downtown, the upgrade will be carefully considered. Winter temps are affecting battery life. I don't need a shut down in the snow.

OTOH, a face plant in the snow would not be too swift either!

Given how much trouble most folks have had with the upgrade, I wouldn't even consider it. My glider is pretty much parked for the winter any due to the amount of snow we have had in Greeley and Glen Haven.

I have a similar story. I called Segway in September about the upgrade and was told they would call back in 30 days and still there has been no reply. I am not sure I care for the upgrade so I have not pursued the matter.
As for Segway service... In some instances they perform very well but for the most part their service is sub par. This has really put me off and I am disappointed in the company as a whole.

Good Luck!

I've actually had a technician call me to set up an appointment at my home in New Jersey. He has called back a few times. Due to my current problems and continuing recovery I have been unable to return his call, when things settle for me I will have to decide whether I want to go through with the upgrade or not. I think I would like some of the other features (including some of the changes made with 11.0 which I do not have) but I will have to consider the possibility of reduced range.

I think I am also hoping that if I keep putting this off, by the time I am ready to consider the upgrade, some announcement or rumors of a version 13.0 may be in the air that improves the range problem.

I got my segway in July and believe I have version 11.0.
When I go up a steep hill coming home, the red warning
light will go on and the segway will stop even when I have
1.5 or 2 sticks. It helps a bit if I slow down, but still
has shut down on occasion.

Will it be MORE likely to shut down if I go thru with the
12.0 upgrade? Are there any real advantages in this upgrade?

I get the impression that I can go further on the first 2 sticks
than on the next 2. Do others notice this?

Another thought. Is it possible that segway is delaying
the upgrades because they are working on version 13.0?

The weekend that the recall was announced we packed our two segs into the van and headed to the hotel in Seattle for the upgrade. We stopped first at the Arbouretum for a walk. When we came back someone had smashed the passenger window. They didn't take the Segways, but it did kill the plans for the uprgrade.

The bright side is that we have version 11.0, and I have no plans on pursuing the upgrade.

Management, customer services and a good product is what makes a good company.
I see where LLC have already replaced some people in management and it does look like they are trying to improve the software so maybe things will look better next summer. That is if sales is enough to keep them in business.
I think the 12.0 will be replaced soon from the problems I've been hearing everyone having.
I wish I had 10.0 on my P. I think that is some of the problem with my P now.

I too am still waiting for my upgrade. But I am confused as to the general feeling about the upgrade and the effect on performance. There does not seem to be a general conscious of opinion if the upgrade is good or bad.

[^] I had a knock on my door a couple days ago.
A gentleman showed up saying he was here to upgrade
my Segway. I explained to him that I had taken it
downtown Seattle some time ago to have the upgrade.

Thought about it for a minute, then we decided that
he was here to upgrade my first Segway which I perchased
back in March.

Yep, that was the first and only Segway ever stolen and
never recovered. Yep, am still looking for it in all the
bushes etc. now that the leaves have fallen.

All that to say, they are out and about, knocking on doors
to do the upgrade.

Thanx Bruce, I don't post here often but do check and read
the posts most every day. I guess if I quickly put up another
1000 posts, I won't be a starting member anymore? Although, I've
been on the site and an owner since March !!!

When I called and scheduled my appointment for the upgrade, I selected the option of having someone from Decision one come to my home. I was told to expect a wait of about two weeks and then someone from Decision One would call and schedule an appointment in another week or two.

I was surprised then to get a call two weeks later not from a Decision One person but a Segway LLC employee who came out and did the upgrade. I'm wondering if anyone on the board had a Decision One employee do theirs of if LLC has stopped using Decision One?

I have access to 3 machines with 11.0 and 1 machine with 12.0.

I really like the behavior of the 12.0 software from what I've seen. I think it will result in extended range for some folks. I rode an i167 with 12.0 software the other day in the cold cold weather and was able to commute the 6 to 8 miles to my destination (in stop and go speeds and some soft and some hard acceleration) on one charge. I still had battery power left when I arrived.

I am about 200 pounds and had about 15 pounds of stuff with me at the time.

The overall range may have decreased for some people. It may have increased for others. Knowing that we may one day have the opportunity to upgrade our batteries, I see it as a step in the right direction either way.

Good Gosh!!! What are you people thinking? All 12.0 does is make your Segway safer for Grandma! Darn it, even a motorcycle is going to fall over when it runs out of gas! You all know that 10.0 gives you PLENTY of warning before its going to shut down and you fall off! 10.0 was a darn good program and the riding "parameters" were already quite tame enough.
Starting with 11.0 you drop 2 mph just lifting 1 foot off the pad to exercise your ankle a bit! Then they slowed down the power assist (you don't have to twist the handle so fast/far!) I use the power assist quite a bit (especially off-road) and I don't want it tamer! Now with 12.0 you can't even take off at full speed because its "monitoring" the batteries so some "idiot" doesn't fall off when he runs the batteries down!! What a crock! The Segways are already "tame" enough, if you learn to ride proficiently you won't fall off and you certainly don't need 12.0! LLC has got to sell machines and they have to be percieved by the public as a safe mode of transportation - hence the new programs that don't have all the bugs worked out yet. You can't buy a Segway now from LLC without 12.0 - not possible (I've tried). I am buying up all the used machines I can lay my hands on (I's & E's) that still have 10.0 installed. Anybody selling theirs to get a "P" model or for other reasons please email me here thru my SC link and I will get back to you next week. Anybody still waiting for their technician to show up- I would reconsider what you're doing!

You can tell LLC doesn't read the SegwayChat very much. If they did they would see the problems they are causing with the 12.0.
Best thing for LLC would be to hire some of the Chat members WHO have hands on experience.
With the performance of the 12.0 people will not want to put down $4000.00 or more for that performance.
When I got my I series if it did not perform I would have tried to sent it back. (May be what I do with my P)
I like the fast starts and speed, if I wanted to walk I would have never purchased the I.
If LLC is worried about safety then they had better change something soon. My P has let me down several times and twice with little warning. LLC, BATTERIES is the answer not software. Make the Seg that charges the batteries as it moves.
This thing about picking up one foot and the Seg slows down is one of the ???? things I have seen.
When another company gets into making a machine similar to the Seg that performs, has a few extras with it and market it I think LLC will say "we should have done that"
I put together a small mini-bike this week, that has a horn, lights, turn signal and a kickstand and only cost $150.00. I'm almost 100% sure that if LLC had added a light, horn, turn signals and a good kickstand everyone would have been willing to pay an extra $150.00. With the Seg all you get is a box and now they are cutting back on the performance.
Put some youth in the design department and I'm sure you will see the Seg rock and sell.
When LLC realizes this is a high dollar toy (just like the corvette) and get off the kick that the Seg will change the world then sales, reliability and performance will move ahead.

I just returned from a business trip and found two voicemails from Decision One, wanting to upgrade my HT ASAP. In the second voicemail they had even picked a day and time. They somehow weren't informed that I upgraded the day after the recall.

:)

I've been complaing about the software since the Alpha code.

If any of you experienced riders had ridden Alpha you would be dumbstruck.

In my opinion the deifference between an Aries K car and a Porsche. The K car will get you there, but the Porsche is so much more enjoyable.

Many of the things that have been "Fixed" in code revs can be implimented transparent to the user. And this 3 footpad sensor business to me is just silly. In fact for me it changes it from usable to worthless. I'd never own one with 12.0 code.

Not that I own one now ;)

Hey guys, thought you might find this helpful. Okay, here's the deal - Segway support kicks butt. Dave, Barbara, Judy and the whole bunch up there are doing a stellar job. Decision One could use a swift kick in the arse though.

Now, aside from upgrades, what I may recommend - especially for those of you that need large part replacements that you can't do yourself, is to contact a local Segway partner, get in touch with their tech, and ask if they wouldn't mind doing it. There shouldn't be an issue there, and that way you can get it done without worrying about D1. Just a thought.

In fact for me it changes it from usable to worthless...I am happy to report that for many all three sensors remain depressed when raising one foot. For those who are wearing smaller footwear or are light weight, they can place the remaining foot on a slight angle to depress the opposite back sensor.

In short, the 3 sensor issue isn't a problem.

Same here.

I had to try really hard to get only 3 or less depressed.

Thanks to all who gave informationon the 12.0 upgrade. I had some reservations and held off because of the information posted. I recently had a chance to ride my E along side another E and a I Model which had the 12.0 upgrade. My acceleration was faster especially down near the last two bars. My total gliding distance measured by my Garmin Five exceeded both the I and the E with the 12.0 upgrade. The Segway, just like Airplanes and Helicopters has an envelope to be operational within, when you exceed that, you can expect problems. No upgrade for me.

The human body also has an operational envelope, and I'll trust LLC to know best how to keep me from exceeding it.

For those of you who must have the 12.0 upgrade today.
You can call DecisionOne at 800-777-8800. Let them know you are ready to upgrade and they will try to bump you to the front.
With 6000 or so Segways and only a small amount of upgrade laptops it will take some time to get to everyone.
