Anyone here on the Usenet and the newsgroups out there?

I had gone to alt.config a few days ago and started a discussion about creating a newsgroup for the Segway (alt.scooters.segway)... They basically said I need more talk on the Usenet before there should be a newsgroup...

,,,and yet every newsgroup I go into (alt.scooter included) I get negative reactions for posting ANYTHING Segway... Yes it is the way of the Usenet and they don't like "Newbies" in there newsgroup, but still.

I want to start Alt.segway and I don't know if anyone on here would be interested in helping me out with that... I know HOW to start a newsgroup but I haven't gone so far as to do it (sending a "Control message")...

Most of the discussion on here and TIQ is specifically for here and the other forum (as well as mailing lists about the Segway) so I don't know who would post on a Newsgroup with me.. Would anyone in here be interested in that?

Thanks

this this site has a broader reach than newsgroups, not many people know how to use or configure a newsgroup reader.

cheers,

Usenet newsgroups are considered to be in the public domain after they are created, so you may get anything from on-topic posts to get-rich-quick spam, to porn. Hard to believe anyone needs more Segway discussion space than is offered here and at certain other online forums. Creating a newsgroup is said to take at least 3 months, following discussion of the topic, followed by a vote, according to some guidelines I've seen. But I doubt any such process occured for the following:

alt.barney.dinosaur.die.die.die
alt.base-jumping.sheep.bounce.bounce.bounce
alt.duck.quack.quack.quack.

Maybe you can slide "alt.segway.glide.glide.glide" under the door before anyone notices..

Seeker, and others interested in hydrogen energy, be sure to check out sci.energy.hydrogen. Tends toward the technical side, but then again, shouldn't it?

Same question on TIQ 12/14, my answer here is similar:

Usenet doesn't get new forums at the rate as years past. The near univesal access to web browsers, cheap/easy to host feature rich www forums that are very easy to use have made Usenet less popular, if not yet obsolete.

I guess there are some people, especially at work, who may have e-mail but not browser access. That would make Usenet advantageous over forums without e-mail posting/notification in for this limited user base.

My recommendation would be to stick with this forum. Starting a Usenet group does not is not worth the energy to reach limited audience.
