Does anyone know if the Segway's keys would be effected by magnets or a magnetic field? If they aren't, I've got a really cool idea...

he's going to use magnets to make the key hover above the keyport

Maybe he's going to put it in a 'Hide-a-key', and attach it under the platform.

I'm not sure what Derek is up to, but in a previous post he had some interesting information about steering and magnets...

He's coming up with a "mag-lev" segway. he was asking about the Segway key and magnetism because the energy of the magnet he is developing is rather large, and if it affected the key system, there would be no way of turning the "Magway," or "Segnet" on.

I hope you don't mind my spilling the beans, Derek.

I hate to disagree Sal, but I'm sure I know what Derek is working on...

He wants to attach a superpowerful electromagnetic to his Segway. The purpose of this is so that when another Segway goes past with an attractive glider, he can turn on the electromagnetic to make sure she doesn't get away!

Cheers

PS: Derek, how much are you selling these for?

Is it possible Derek is going to make a keyless Segway like Wayne's? I think he is going to do this by placing a magnet around the keyport and inside an attached balloon or bubble around the keyport he will have a key suspended near the top of the bubble by opposing magnetic forces. To start, press down on the key and the magnetic forces push it back up. Similar to Wayne's.

Hey a fat thin spring will do the same thing. But I'm still not sure why anyone would want a keyless Segway. It would be too easy to steal.

After some snooping in NH, I have learned that Derek is creating a weather-changing machine. I won't get into the technicalities, but, this machine, which, by the way can fold itself into a compact rectangular box, suitable for placement in the front bag of a Segway HT, will be able to alter the weather in the Northeast of the US. Going through the trash, I have uncovered some rudimentary plans, tarnished by rain and the occasional banana peel, I have deciphered them as follows: "...by use of a large electromagnetic field, I will change the magnetic field of the Earth, thereby altering weather patterns, and allow for a extended aurumn and spring seasons, a slightly shortened summer. By eliminating winter, we here in New Hampshire and as well the Northeast will be able to glide throughout the year, and it will become the optimal destination for future SegwayFests..."

I also uncovered some discarded drawings for a mag-lev Segway, another for the opposites attract Segway, and an short list of phone numbers, obviously, this piece of paper was not meant to be lost, as it was entitled: "Famous Playboy models who dig guys who own Segways." I promptly stashed this list in my jacket pocket and made my getaway without being noticed.

I will guess that the idea is remote control steering using electromagnets rather than permanent ones.

This would be handy when pushing a shopping cart to have the steering for the Segway HT on the cart handle.
