At this months NYC meeting there was a partially paralyzed young man. He was considering buying a Segway and wanted to try one. He had a strong upper body could stand and step up but not walk. I held my machine while he got on and off, watched while he smiled and glided. I realized that the only problem he would have is getting on and off and came up with a solution.
I had him pull the machine up to a fixed object like a light pole or a wall. This kept the machine stable and stationary which, allowed him get on and off without assistance. He spent at least a half hour on the machine, I watched with pleasure as he practiced his new skills.
There nothing better then getting someone out of a wheel chair and on a Segway.

WOW ... that sounds fantastic. I know I will treasure that type of experience if I ever have the opportunity.

“Who goes out and says, ‘You have a better probability of winning the state lottery than making a nickel in professional sports. And by the way, last year two million exciting technical jobs went unfilled in this country because you weren't there to take that job. And it pays you 10 times as much as flipping burgers, and it's fun and it's exciting and you get to create things and build things and help make the world a better place and help make yourself a better living.’ Who tells them this?”

Wonderful Story SegwayBill, I bet you gave him the time of his life, and a sense of liberation he hadn't felt in a long time. I bet he'll become one of the members of the NY Segway club soon.
