Hey All,

Looks like I'm gonna be helping Tech TV again. This time, unfortunately, it's not Segway related. They are going to use my living room to film a piece on the new Pioneer TiVo/DVD combo player. Leo Laporte is coming by too.

I met up with him on the street a few weeks ago and we talked about the Segway and stuff. He does wants one, but he mentioned that he thinks they are too pricey. Maybe Segway LLC should make a donation as he'd make a great vocal spokesperson for them... I'm definitely going to get a picture of Leo on a Segway for www.bayareaseg.com

My version of a Screen Saver's script:

PATRICK: Hi I'm Patrick Norton, and this is Leo Laporte!

LEO: Say, Patrick, have you gotten a chance to check out (new technology X) yet?

PATRICK: (half-hearted) Yeah...

LEO: You didn't like it?

PATRICK: It's okay.

LEO: Okay?!!? It's AMAZING! Have you seen the features it has?

PATRICK: I can do almost as much as that, at a third of the cost with (product y).

LEO: But you have to admit, X is really cool. And look at that interface!

PATRICK: But it's just not a practical solution. Not at that price point.

LEO: Well, I do agree, they need to get the price down. But we're going to be seeing more and more of things like these as time goes on.

PATRICK: I think I'll wait for someone who can get it down to a usable verion. As it is, this isn't a realistic product. It's a toy. It may be a cool toy, but it's not a realistic solution.

LEO: Our NEXT item... boy this is really really cool, wait till you see this.....

(repeat ad infinitum)



Can you guess which one of the two is my favorite? ;)

I'm really jealous. I wish I was a Screen Savers regular!

Count how many times he says "basically" during a Screen Savers show.

Leo is great. He has so much enthusiasm.

Comcast in my area stopped carrying Tech TV a while ago and I still miss it.

I didn't so much dislike Patrick as I did miss the older cohost, jeez I can't remember her name and I can't find her on the TechTV website, but she moved to a TechTV show about video games when Patrick came on board with the screen savers.

Patrick I thought added a lot to the show but there's a weird chemisty between him and Leo, and I love Leo so much and he and that woman were just so much FUN together, the show really had a great dynamic back then. They did a guest appearance at a local Gateway Store opening and I missed them, now I regret that.

I like Patrick.

It's just that Leo is my favorite. If I could choose anyone to be my fun uncle, it would be Leo LaPorte.

I like Patrick Norton, but only because of the way he contrasts with Leo.

It's like a version of Car Talk, but instead of Tom and Ray, it's like Roeper and Ray.


Speaking of Roeper... Anyone caught the new show at the Mirage? "The Magical World of Sigfried & Roeper"

Bah!

I pay more than AU$100 a month for PayTV here, and we don't even get Tech TV, just re-runs of Green Acres and movies that have been out on DVD for months! Tech TV looks like it would be great! Australia can be so backwards sometimes :(

I love the new Pioneer TiVo units, but I don't think there's anyway we'll be able to hack them for PAL like we can Series 1 TiVo's. So far we haven't been able to crack Series 2 TiVo's and I'm guessing that the software on the Pioneer would be similar.

Here's my Segway against a background of 3 networked TiVo's. Both are *SUPER* rare here!

I provided a Seg for that shoot "Tech TV's top 20 holiday gifts" The one Leo Laporte is on in a trio of Segs -- woz provided the other two in absentia. I see also a P series shows up in a sort of Seg playland scene that looks like a ticket to ride type event. Plus I saw Jon's in the background on the DVD Tivo scene. For not making it as a top 20 gift, the Segway shows up a lot in this program!
