View Full Version : "In the zone"

Was wondering if anyone gets "in the zone" and "out of the zone" when gliding? Most of the time I would rate my ride a 7 or 8 (10 being best). Every once in awhile I'm "out of the zone" when my timing is off I just kinda lurch about(unsmooth). It even feels slower.
On the other hand, when I"m "in the zone" (about 5% of time) its heaven on a Segway.
I've never felt this way on a bike or car before.
This isn't a negative. Its a personality trait.

i've found that the segway ht is "wearable" and minor influences that i am unaware influence my glide. for example, when i go running, then ride the ht, i feel "shakey". other times when i'm tired, the ht seems slower.
cheers,

Think I know what you mean Rob, but with experience, I find that I'm 'in the zone' more often than not.
I'm starting to have some of those 'Gee, I don't remember the last 10 blocks' experiences, although it scares me a bit because you do have to keep alert for road conditions, and I try not to daydream or get too distracted. I'm always riding flat out on the red key, and really don't want any major mishaps.
No question that the more miles, the better you get. Enjoy.

I'd say the less you pay attention to the Segway and the more you pay attention to your surroundings the better your ride will be.

I find that when I go back and forth between the 'p' and the 'i', my unconscious reflexes change and it takes me a minute or two to get back "in teh groove" - most noticable on the 'i' ride.

I find that I get in the zone when gliding in downtowns because when the buildings are closer to the street I feel like I'm going faster because of the fact that closer things leave my sight quicker than things that are far away. I've glided down hallways at 12.5 and I feel like Luke Skywalker gliding down the Death Star trench. Conversely, I feel like I'm going slow in wide open spaces.

Does it feel like your in a worm hole or tunnel? (tunnel vision) :)
Ever been to Disney World and been on the Buzz Lightyear ride? Its like a worm hole type, vacuum you in type, ride. Its alot of fun, I rode it, and rode it. It would be great on a Segway, I think.
What other types of riding styles, in, or close by things gives you an odd illusion or feeling? Maybe there is an amusement park ride idea using different natural feelings and illusions , one could get while riding on a Segway. Maybe they could use that light/movie wall like in the Buzz Lightyear ride to pretend your driving thru traffic or pedestrians head on, or trying to cross a busy street with alot of car traffic. You know something to give you an illusion or semi-frighten you to get your heart pumping, like on an amusement thrill ride.
Has anyone gone over a small hump in the road on your Segway and almost get airborne and get that empty stomach feeling you get when someone goes over a hill real fast?
I already know it feels like a trill ride on a Segway, but wouldn't it be cool to have a bunch of trills and illusions on a glide thru amusement type park setting or something? Maybe the Segway smile is the same smile you get from an amusement ride. Not a trill ride tho, cause I've never heard someone scream while ridng a Segway for the first time like on a thrill ride. :) Have you?

I agree with that opti6600; plus your glide will be safer if you pay more attention to your surroundings. The Segway sort of takes care of itself.

With practice, everyone will be "in the zone" 9 times out of ten.
What gets me is, that after a particularly long glide (and this might have been said before) when I get off the Segway, I tend to still want to lean forward instinctively!

I feel like i get into the "zone" after about 5 or 10 minutes glide on my segway. I will then get off and still think that i am gliding, and lean forward, and be thinking, "why am i not moving?"

After I rode a Seg for the first time, I had that feeling you get when you've been roller skating for a long time and then take the skates off. It's that weird sensation that tells you that you should still be skating. Except in this case I should still be gliding. That's a sensation I can agree with. Man do I want a Seg.
