Just picked up the Chicago Tribune for Sunday 5 October 2003. Heading in the Transportation Section: Segway recalls 6,000 scooters by Peter Pae. It's just an aricle about the recall. The facts seem to be correct: nothing like that Roeper guy from that other Chicago newspaper. I would put the article up on the site but I have not connected my scanner since my move.

Thanks for the heads-up G-Master. The story evidently hasn't yet been released on the chicagotribune.com Web site (same deal as before with the SegFest story, you have to register), but it probably will be available tomorrow.

The Tribune's been pretty kind to us lately. The SegwayFest story that came out on the day the Fest started, August 29th, was pretty good, and of course Chuck Green's follow-up story in the Transportation section on Sunday, September 21 was great.

It turns out that this is a syndicated LA Times article.

"The Manchester N.H.-based company said the glitch can be repaired with new software. Dealers will install software in the scooter's computer system to better monitor battery power; it will automatically shut off the engine when battery levels get too low."

Well ... okay ... whatever ...

Engine, we have engines?

Well crud, my entire outlook on life has been ruined.

Nevermind the fact that shutting off the "engine" totally defeats the purpose of the upgrade. Journalists can be so dumb. Except when they run a website devoted to solar energy, that is.

Fear not, for even though I come from the Forbidden City, I surely do not agree with the rules.

Only problem with the Tribune article is they still call it a s______; well you know. Don't they know a glider when they see one?

A more authoritative source for the USA is http://www.recalls.gov/.
