Torrone, director of product development for Fallon Worldwide, located in Seattle, was thinking of buying a hybrid electric car, but decided everything he did -- movies, shopping, work -- was in Segway distance.

BTW, are u planning to start your own discussion forum on Book of Segway? Hope not! We want both of u here. (I am speaking for myself, but assume that the other participants agree.)

I agree with that in total pt. I don't think your site should be used for conversation. Enjoy The Glide and When You Segway, May The Glide Be With You.

Info all the way. Book of Seg should concentrate on something like a blog. PT shouldn't waste his time on a forum or news section. Just get his segway out, film it, report it, and take pictures of it. That's all we want. Also free rides are welcome. :D

Tlane, looking forward to your personal account. It may be difficult to say anything new but at least u can confirm what others have experienced.

Welcome back TLane! We're anxious to hear all about it.
BTW, ditto the above for PT and Flashgoirl. It's all been wonderful stuff, and we're grateful for the effort.

Hey thanks! We both really love this site - I found it as soon as we knew we were going to be getting one (the second one was just a twinkle in pt's eye at that time). I would encourage all new owners to tell folks they meet who are interested to come check out this site, read, ask questions, and learn more. I'm sure as the Segway HTs begin to ship in March there will be a whole lot of folks looking for a community just like this one.

Well, we've been SWAMPED by people here in Minneapolis...I'll estimate we've given 60-80 "try-outs" on the Segway in the last 3 days, with the most amazing being my father--suffering from Parkinson's for 12 years. He stepped up & rode his first ride with ZERO problems. He had an easier time than some of the twenty-something students at the college of art & design across the street who cornered us. Wait till a few modestly disabled San Fransicians in there 60's & 70's realize what the segway can do for them.
hey t-
that is great, nicely done.
i just moved from minneapolis to seattle this year, cool place. i used to take an electric scooter from the warehouse district to fallon (901 marquette at the time) then to south 6th street. the segway of course would have been better-- maybe this summer when i'm at our mn offices i'll bring the ole' segway out. next time i'm in town, i'd love to buy ya drink or whateva.
cheers,
pt

Tlane tell us more about your father's experiences, if you can, please.
Maybe he would like to write an article for our Web site?

speaking about Minneapolis and getting back to the original thread,
in case people did not notice, there was another article in Wired News about these two rascals [8D]

np, thanks for the article about pt. It was very informative and pt sounds like an impressive individual. Here is an excerpt from the article, maybe somebody should post the whole article:
quote:Phillip Torrone, an engineer who once installed high-speed Internet access and enough gadgetry in his car to make it illegal in the state of New York, can now be spotted tooling around Minneapolis on a cell phone-enabled scooter.
Torrone, 26, a Flash-technology book author, upgraded his toy into a souped-up electric scooter complete with a global positioning system, wireless application protocol, short messaging service, a PocketPC and Macromedia Flash services.
