I think we should all name someone in SF who's working towards getting Segway's accepted there. Our nominations should say something like "I nominate [name] for working towards the acceptance of the Segway Human Transporter. This device is perfect for those with disabilities as it enables them to climb the steep hills of SF when they normally could not do so in a wheelchair. Also, they're not taking up precious parking spots or further taxing the current bus/transit system while in the city".
Who can we name? This would be awesome if we could send in a ton of nominations! ;)

CALL FOR STRIDE AND RIDE AWARD NOMINATIONS
OAKLAND, CA, Sept. 8, 2003 . . . Do you know of a person in the San Francisco Bay Area who has consistently gone the extra mile to improve mobility for pedestrians, cyclists or the physically disabled? If so, now is the time to nominate someone for the Stride & Ride Awards. The Bay Area Local Host Committee for the Walk/Bike California Conference will present these awards on Thursday evening, Oct. 16, 2003, in Oakland, at the first statewide conference on walking and bicycling.
Nominations are due by Friday, Sept. 19, 2003; nominations may be submitted electronically at the Web site for the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), one of the local conference hosts: www.mtc.ca.gov.
Sponsors are looking for Bay Area individuals whose efforts have led to dramatic improvements in travel conditions for bicyclists, pedestrians or persons with disabilities, with one award to be presented in each category. Entries might include a traffic engineer or facilities coordinator who has gone out of their way to accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists or persons with physical disabilities; an advocate who has worked effectively with staff and the community to deliver timely projects; or a policy-maker who has lobbied for more livable, pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly cities.
"These awards will go to outstanding individuals who have made long-term commitments to making walking or bicycling in the San Francisco Bay Area a safer and more attractive mode of travel, or who have worked to remove mobility barriers faced by persons with disabilities," said Nancy Okasaki, an MTC planner who is spearheading the Stride & Ride Awards.
The Walk/Bike Conference will bring together diverse interest groups. Attendees will receive hands-on experience in evaluating the walking and bicycling environment. The key topic areas of the conference sessions are: Health/Safety, Engineering/Planning, Local Partnerships, Livable Communities and Politics/Culture. Mobile workshops will include tours of bicycle and pedestrian facilities in the East Bay and San Francisco.
