[Added 9/11]: Last call for any New Englanders interested in riding their Seg in the BigE parade on Sunday 9/21 at 5:00pm -- the BigE will provide any riders with complimentary one-day admission and VIP parking -- but you must let me know ASAP if you are interested. Thanks.

[Original message:]

(fyi, The BigE is one of the largest fairs in the United States -- it takes place over 17 days in September at the Eastern States Exhibition Fairgrounds in West Springfield, MA)

With all of the talk on here of Segways being banned at fairgrounds around the country, I decided to be a little proactive. (My company has a very good relationship with the management at the Big E) We went up there tonight and met with upper management and the president; we discussed the Segway and gave demos. Their reaction to it was very positive, but they do not want it to be used on the fairgrounds -- worried about liability, etc. The president did acknowledge that they would have to adapt to new technology as it occurs, but that this was not the year, especially this close to opening day (this Friday).

However, we were able to work out a compromise. They are willing to allow a team of Segways to glide in their daily parade one day. Looking at my own schedule, I picked Sunday September 21.

So... are there any New England Seggers out their interested in coming to the Big E on that date to participate in the parade? The Segways would have to go back to the cars afterwards and could not be used around the fairground. The parade starts at 5:00, you would have to be present at the fairground at or before 4:00 that day.

General fair info can be found at http://www.thebige.com

I live in Albany, NY but I would love to participate in the parade. It is a short drive to Springfield, and if my geography is sound, West springfield would be slightly closer!

Please do email me.

Thanks,
Sal

The Big "E" is quite a show. Each New England State has its own building near the entrance to the fair grounds and they each serve their most famous foods. You can eat your way around the fair while enjoying lobster, clam fritters, apple pie, VT chedder cheese, maple sugar candies, Maine baked potatos, clam chowder, egg omletes, etc. They have the latest in home products, shoe laces (which stay tied), hand-made furniture (with real boards up to three feet wide), folding extension ladders, solar awnings, rides, Clydesdale Horses, bands and more. Since I'm going to Springfield in October to watch the leaves change, I'll miss the Big "E" in September. But, it's worth the trip--if you care to go. Remember, this life is not a dress rehersal--it's the real thing! So, enjoy it.

Please let me know who my contact person should be at the BigE.
