There is a new cable lock on Amazon.com. It attaches to the wheel bolt. Looks pretty cool, but expensive $80.00

I just noticed this on Segway.com. Pricey, but appears a lot more convenient than the coiled version. Has anyone bought one yet?

The difference between the new lock and the current Kryptonite lock is that the new lock, locks on to the wheel nut thus securing it to the actually gearbox/base. With the other lock the cable passes through a hole in the wheel/tire assembly and the fender. It is possible then to undo the hubnut and take the wheel off the Segway, and then undo the bolts holding the fender on to the Segway. The Segway is then free to be taken away, and only the wheel and the fender is locked to the fixed object.

How exactly does it attach to the wheel nut? Does it come with a different nut that you put on the wheel?

Remember, for those of you that purchased your Segs through Amazon and got the 12.0 recall upgrade, we will be getting a $50 Amazon credit. So if you're willing to wait a little while, you can get the lock for $30!... not bad.

This lock was on one of Segways' units at Segway Fest 2003. Not sure how many people really saw it. I thought it was great. It seem to be very strong and well made. When locked on the wheel nut the cable would free wheel without being able to take it off. They should have had the unit up on the table with a sign for more people to notice.

Richard, could you post a photo that shows clearly how the cable attaches to the wheel nut? Thanks.

I saw the prototype at Segfest, it's really clever. you replace the standard wheel nut with a special one with a knob on its head that the lock grabs onto, yet can still spin. This means the wheel/ transmission and powerbase are all protected. all one could steal is the other wheel if you have the right wrench.
I just ordered one from LLC .. Dang! forgot about the amazon gift certificate.

Great idea, but 80$!? Guess it may be worth it to protect your 4.5k investment.
