Just purchased insurance this past week. Excellent coverage and only $151.00. Coverage $300k combined limits, 5k medical and $250 deductable. If you go to progressives web site it is much higher. Over $300
It appears the min. premimum is $150.00
2 Local agents quoted the same amount.
Give them a call
Palm Desert Insurance Agency 760 341-2345
in my area, $85.00 with
a $200 deduct. progres-
sive!
kthxbye.

I obtained coverage over the internet with Progressive this weekend. Bodily injury/property damage/guest passenger, comprehensive, and collision, $100 deductible, all for $84 per year. I'm sure I live in a low risk area, but for that amount, it would be very hard to beat.
Interestingly enough, when I worked with the different coverage and deductible amounts with their on-line quote system, the quote would not go below $84. I could raise the bodily injury coverage, reduce the deductible, and it would still be $84.
The only thing that would really raise the rates seems to be Personal Injury Protection. It can significantly increase your premiums.

I have progressive .......here in South Florida it's 104.00 per year with 250 deductible. Whats interesting is the rate didnt change when I sold my "i" and bought a "p" even though the value of the new machine is $1000.00 less.

WOW - What's going on in Indianapolis ... or is it my speeding ticket a couple of years ago ?? (Don't know why Segway insurance would be impacted by that ...). On the Progressive website, for liability only (any limits) I got back a quote of $75/year, but when I added Comprehensive (any deductible) it jumps to over $300!

my quote ($85/yr w/ $200 deduct)
was based on several factors, the
specifics of which are unknown to
me.
but, i was queried about:
* marital status
* homeownership
* traffic tickets
* age
* occupation
* (bankruptcy (?)--not sure about
this one)
(i think i did okay.)
kthxbye.

Hey INDYFIRST , there must be something terribly wrong with that quote from Progressive. I've seen high rates posted here from OTHER companies , but nothing like yours from Progressive ! Try a different local office for another quote.......btw....the local office I used here in Boca Raton specializes in motorcylces, motorscoters, and rv type's and NOT autos.

Rich, you have some great coverage, but it sure is costing you a pretty penny! Once I get another machine I'm hoping the cost of insurance will not quite double...that should make it about 208.00 , maybe less. But then again we live in litigation heaven South Florida.

I also got a quote from progressive that rivaled my car insurance.
Strange for a married driver over 35, no tickets, no accidents, low-crime area.
So I got State Farm. $95 bucks a year for insurance that Progressive was quoting me over $500 for.
I think Progressive's actuarial tables are WACKED in some areas.

RAG, I insure two cars in LA for less than that, and I have a lower deductable and 4 times the comprehensive. I know you're happy with the coverage, but DANG, that's a stiff premium.

We've got a few other threads on insurance but the only benefit of uninsured motorist coverage if you have adequate medical insurance is to be able to sue the insurance company for pain and suffering in an accident IMHO. The reasons that I carry my insurance is to protect me if it is stolen or destroyed in an accident as well as to protect me for all liability while using it including the numerous test glides that I give each day. (I like to give six test glides on each outing)

I agree - but if someone else is riding your ht and is involved with an uninsured motorist, they then have addtl coverage. Florida is notorious for uninsured drivers unfortunately

Are we absolutely sure that the Progressive Insurance covers us from litigation resulting from incidents associated with Demos? Peter

I was advised that anyone operating the unit is covered. if the other operator is a frequent user, such as 12+ times per year, then you have to provide his or her drivers license. also if other drivers reside in the same household, then their driver info must be provided. the guest passenger coverage that progressive talks about is for motorcycles and has nothing to do with the ht. I don't think that anyone ever mentions the word demos, since this might tend to look more like a business

Thanks Richard,
I hope your information is right! I signed up for progressive insurance last week ($115/year in Arlington, Va.) but I have not received the policy in the mail yet. The guy I spoke to on the phone however told me that if I let someone who has never ridden one try it the insurance does NOT cover me and I am responsible and can be sued by the person on the seg and anyone they hurt? Reduce your exposure to risk.....limit the number of demos you give away to only a select FEW.

my Progressive policy doesn't mention anything about me being the exclusive driver...I am the listed driver, but that does not mean exclusivity, the same as if I permit another person to drive my car occassionally.....
My policy costs $151.00 includes
100/300,000 liability incl "passenger" $19
50,000 property damage 7
comp $250 ded 14
collision $250 ded 37
pip 50,000 3
SUM 100/300,000 71
I worry about the SUM ( underinsured motorist ) as I was involved with an accident this past year with an uninsured in a rear end collision.............so, if my Segway with me on board gets smacked by a car that is not insured to the max, crossing a street or riding on the local roads, bingo, got coverage!!!

Progressive Insurance for an Hawaii HT i is costing me $194. a year with a $500 deductible PL & PD 40,000, no Bodily Injury or uninsured motorist coverage.
They have issued me a policy for motorcycle coverage. Is this what the rest of you Progressive policy holders have been issued?
I called a couple of other insurance companies to compare - they responded "you want to insure your WHAT???"

Yes, this is a "motorcycle" policy. I guess Progressive doesn't have a specific category for the Segway...

Sure seems to be a variation in prices for insurance.
We're right at a hundred but that seems high considering the speed, weight and killing power of a Seg.
My old jap jeep suv "tojo" and my good 1 ton 454 4x4 Chevy p.u. with liabality only and the new Expedition with full coverage alltogether are less than $600 / year here. That's 900 horsepower, 14000 lbs, and 4 miles per gallon if they are all going down the road together.
Everything is relative, They're Just Not Related
