Just a heads-up for those who haven't seen it.

Consumer Reports briefly covered Segway on page 8 (3/4 page article) of the October issue.

Pretty typical unemotional CR article.

quote:The Bottom Line: The Segway is well designed, easy to master, and fun to ride, but expensive and of limited use. It may help people who have difficulty walking, and it can replace a car for some short trips.

I never cared for Consumer Reports.

It seems their main criteria is price verses quality and I would prefer quality any day of the week.

i wonder how many things,
reviewed by "consumer re-
ports," turn out to be
"cheap and of _un-limited_
use."

kthxbye.

I guess you missed the Consumer Reports special issue on rubber bands.

The bottom line is, CR didn't make any unsavory discoveries about the Segway. If there's one thing Middle America can count on Consumer Reports for, it's debunking claims by a product's manufacturer. You and I already knew that Segway's on the up-and-up. Now it's official.

Sounds like a reasonable review to me, well designed, easy to mater, and fun to ride, expensive and can help people with difficulty walking and can replace a car for some short trips. And yes it has limited use - big deal - so do cars, air conditioners, and x-ray machines. (I would like to see CR's first microwave oven reviews).

I repect Consumer Reports reviews. It sounds like they objectively looked at the Segway and came up with the same conclusions as we have have been saying all along. Like PT says, this is a marathon, the people that will have egg on their face will be the critics who publicly scoffed at the Segway back in '03.

Onward!
