View Full Version : Rumor: Price Drop Confirmed
[^][^][^]
While trying to make up my mind about buying now or waiting,
(see topic “Dilemma – Buy Now or Wait?)
http://www.segwaychat.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5150
I found a dealer who confirmed the price drop !!!!!!
I live within easy driving range of Cincinnati, and often check with Sporty’s Pilot Shop to look at their Segway page.
www.sportys.com/segway
The price listed today is $4495. They have a few in stock, and I’m driving up there tomorrow for training and to pick it up!
They also list stats for the “p” model, and say it will be available mid-October. They list the weight of the “p” model at 63 lbs, with a price of $3995.
Sporty’s is a great place to shop. Their customer service is tremendous, and I’ve ordered from them many times. This time, I’m driving up there. I’ll let you know details of my experience.
I said before that I thought the price drop was an omen. I’m for sure now that it was!
YYYYYYIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPPEEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There; I feel better now.

GREAT NEWS BOB! Enjoy the glide [/:)]
I also experienced my first glide and found this wonderful community (segwaychat.com) only a few short weeks ago. I had been very familiar with Dean and the Segway thru my work with FIRST robotics (www.usfirst.org). After my first experience I told my wife that I WOULD own one someday, and that this issue could become a "marriage-buster". Fortunately I WAS able to attend the SegFest, and extra lucky to have Dean pull my winning raffle ticket. I JUST GOT MY NEW HT A COUPLE OF HOURS AGO, AND I AM SITTING HERE AT WORK WITH MY HEAD ABOUT TO EXPLODE! ...and now I know that I will have at least another 23 years of married bliss (after I get her a p-series of course :)).

Alright Stu! Glad to hear it arrived. Now you just have to wait those long 12 hours for it to charge, and keep those first four or five rides relatively short, as per the battery conditioning instructions. You'll have a great late summer and fall. Congrats again!

I just thought of the ultimate optional accessory when ordering your Segway: Pre-conditioned batteries! Now, that would be an option I'd buy to avoid the 12 hour Segwait.

Just talked to Sportys about the price drop. They had to remove it from their web site. Segway did not like it. He said a price drop was coming but later. P series Segway is coming to them by mid October.

Ahh, so it looks like maybe they jumped the gun a little. Thanks for the info Scotty. Well, back to the rumor mill. :)

Good luck with your Segway purchase at Sporty's.....wouldn't it be great if you now won their Free Airplane Sweepstakes for making that purchase !!

I hope they didn't rely on this site for official pricing info!
Folks, remember.. what you read here isn't official. It's all rumor and speculation until Segway LLC puts it up on their site!! (for more than a moment!)

And people wonder why Segway LLC doesn't make advance announcements. Now anyone who has read this thread will put off a purchase until the price drops or LLC will have to drop the price sooner than they had planned.

speaking of rumors (and the P series): I pressed one of the marketing people from LLC really hard about the price of the P series, while in Chicago.. they never came out and told me directly but hinted at the initial price as being under $3995.

When I was in Nevrland (Orlando area dealer) a month ago they had a P series there. They told me they were the exclusive dealer there and could only sell it to county residents. The price was $3995. It looked SO small next to the HT. I would spend the extra bucks and get the HT. Glad I did.

Jason, the model HT you're speaking of is the i-Series. There is no such model as the "HT model", although you may be in the same camp as my father on that note, lol. HT stands for Human Transporter, the proper name of the Segway (Segway HT/Segway Human Transporter).
